Craig D'Alessandro:

Today on MTP we discuss the last two games of the Patriots have them trending in the right direction. We'll discuss if Justin Tucker is the greatest kicker in NFL history will perform an autopsy on the Boston Red Sox after their elimination from the MLB playoffs, and we'll even see baseball next year. This is missing the point. Episode 93 When it's all relative Did you hear what Joakim Noah said today?

Rayshawn Buchanan:

wouldn't have done that 911 shit to Derick Rose's vs. knee. I mean, I didn't see the whole quote. But the fact that that's like, come on, I never read those things. I'm like, I was just like, really though. Like when I saw that headline. I'm like, come on. Come on. Come on.

Craig D'Alessandro:

When I found out Derick Rose tore his ACL I remember the smells who I was with everything. I had the same feeling when I saw the plane hit the tower on 9/11 feel to me like, he's crazy. We're saying that no, I'm telling you how I felt.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Yeah, but it's just like reread, read the fucker world, like,

Joe Malkin:

problem where people can just say, whatever they want to say. And feel as though it's okay for them to say whatever they want to say. And that's not even the the First Amendment thumpers. That's just in general, people just are not held accountable. And they think the moment that cameras in their face, or they have a phone that they can type on. It's like, don't don't don't yeah.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

I'm on my car. I was like, Come on, Joe. Come on. Come on. Come on, bro. Like you. Come on. Come on, put that put that education is brother like,

Craig D'Alessandro:

you know, also it's pretty good editor. manipulation to that thing. Sure.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

For sure. Because he keeps he's thread will follow you while he was when I was working? Well, I feel like we I thought it was just a DM 232 talks about some long time. He he was like, Yeah, I'm just gonna record the head down. So that's the last I saw the link. And I was like, how do you want to click on this? Because I'm going to get annoyed. I'm just There's no fucking way I don't care we had like, there's no way in any situation that a sports related injury can be prepared somewhere. But it's one of the biggest tragedies of American history, like, what are we doing? What are we doing?

Joe Malkin:

I do understand what you're saying. You know, there's things that happen in your life, where you remember where you were when they happen, like I can remember every car accident that I've been in, I can remember every single one. But that doesn't mean that it compares to 911 where I was sitting in my eighth grade history class, and then went throughout the day trying to figure out what when what happened. It's like there's I understand what he's saying. But that his analogies awful. Oh, very, very. He could have been like, I remember Derrick Rose's injury. The sounds the smells like it was like it was yesterday. It was almost like when my first child was born. Like that's, that is more of a good comparison and September 11, we come on.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

And welcome. It's missing the point now Hey, yeah, no,

Joe Malkin:

actually, you know, all righty, right. Welcome into missing the point. I'm Joe Malkin. He's Rayshawn Buchanan. Craig D'Alessandro is, is the guy that's spinning the dials down there making a sound great. And now this is missing the point. And we're happy to be here, right? We haven't done a show in a while. So this is kind of a fun one. We've kind of missed all the big moments with with our smaller lineups that we've had it from a bigger standpoint. Anyway, it was great to be on with Bobby The last time I was on, we were talking about the Patriots and Cowboys game, which is one of the best football games I've ever been to in my lifetime. And I've been to a lot of football games in my life. But Ray, we are here to talk about the NFL. We're here to talk about a little bit of the start of the NBA and NHL seasons if we get there, and possibly the end of the Red Sox season. There's a lot we could talk about and go over. But let's start with the New England Patriots. Because we all watch this game against the New York Jets on Sunday. So it was a bit of a I think every game against the Jets is a Redemption game for Bill Belichick and English is how he sees it. The Patriots put up a score line that is mildly reminiscent to that of their game against the Tennessee Titans in 2007. Now granted, this isn't the 2007 This isn't your daddy's patriots. We can say that now. It was 2007 was 15 years ago. Jesus banks joke. Oh my god, but the Patriots beat down on the Jets 54 to 13. And before we get into the numbers, Ray, what does this game mean for you for this team that is now three and four and has wings against the Jets? The Jets and the Texans

Rayshawn Buchanan:

are measly I could breathe for another week. Ah, I've been sick to my stomach watching this team overall on Pisco I feel like this that Miami last week more than lose worse and worse to me each week, I didn't think that Miami was going to come in being a DC like we did talk about that being sort of a contender on our previous shows, but I just can't believe that team was falling off and great. You can't know that at week one. But it's just look so bad at the destination for the evolution for two as opposed to a you know, three or four or even five to two, right, depending on how the cookie crumbles there. But no, I mean, let's say just because I can breathe, right? And you know, I'm invested for another week. And listen, I'm gonna revisit all seven students. But you know, I don't want to cry for another like I've been crying. Allah assumes that cowboys lost heart. Amanda, could I have family attempts isn't a don't call me for anything else. But it was all you know, there was all on my head about how Oh, you know, no, we know the boys going to the Superbowl. And why did last time. Dallas was even relevant in every regard. Bill Clinton still hadn't had a relationship with Monica Lewinsky, just saying what you know, whatever it is what it is so well, yeah. But that's so long story short, that's how I feel.

Craig D'Alessandro:

But for young kids out there, that's the time for 1995 1997. Right, exactly.

Joe Malkin:

Right. I sent this to the group chat after the game, because myself and Bobby were both there. And I still stand by this. And Bobby said I was salty after I said this, but it's from firsthand experience. Every win for the Dallas Cowboys is a Super Bowl victory. Everyone is just walking out of there. And I gotta tell you, from somebody again, that saw it was around it. Dallas Cowboys fans, on the whole are a very respectful fan base. They're just out of their minds. They're just out of their minds. They love their team. They love their football and not that we don't here in New England. I think we're a little a little less intense because I don't think we need we needed to be in the last 20 years. But walking out of there, I heard the same stuff. It was a How about them cowboys? The boys are going to the Super Bowl. And you know, and it's like guys, it's a week five win. Or yeah, Week Five one week five win over the New England Patriots like and I'm not even gonna throw anything else in there of like rookie quarterback. Anything else. It's a week five win over the Nolan patriots. Boo. Where were they at the time. Two and two are coming in. So it's like, what's the conversation we're having? Yeah, that cowboys team is really good. But I agree with you. It's another week to breathe because I said this on the show with Bobby The last time previewing the Cowboys game because I picked the Cowboys to win that game and that game was incredible. This team could realistically be five and two. I'll go five and two because I think the Cowboys 100% deserved that win. I think that they had a lot of chances to win and earlier so that could kind of go either way. But you know really the only loss that was a bonafide loss for the Patriots. Was that New Orleans loss? Yeah. And they came in and smoked us and you know, I that New Orleans team is fun to watch. They don't have besides Alvin Kamara they don't have a lot of beach over the top like they just don't have a lot right without Michael Thomas they just don't have that that next X Factor. They don't have

Rayshawn Buchanan:

a lot of web business Mr. Mr. fibreop slant and once they yell at me five they have a five yard route this route. Right?

Joe Malkin:

Well anyway, getting back to where we started this game against the Jets a 54 to 13 when Mack Jones first 300 yard game, whatever reason NFL quarterback 300 yard games should be pretty standard. Right and then two touchdowns, which is great to passing touchdowns. Kendrick Bourne also has a passing touchdown and what have I been saying all season long. Give the ball to 84 Put the ball in the hands of number 84 Because he's your most dynamic offensive weapon without James White. He is your most dynamic offensive weapon. Then Damien Harris comes out 100 yard rushing game two touchdowns. This was such a building block game for this doing and patriots team and the fact that they can now build off of this with a young team. A lot of their veterans are on the shelf. They're not sure if Devin Mccourty is going to be able to play this week. Dante Hightower was inactive last week. They played that well defensively, not that the Jets are great. But they played that well defensively without Dante Hightower and they even got to the Jets backup quarterback with Chofu back Wilson's okay. The rookie quarterback for the Jets. But Brandon Bolden been playing a big role in the offense for the Patriots, which I like because he is kind of your discount James White. And he's always been that way and it's nice to see him making some plays. So a big offensive day Ray for the Patriots and something they really need to build on going forward.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Yeah, I mean, we differ in our stance on Brendan Borden. I was ready to bring him to Logan Airport. I have been over a year. Yeah, so yeah, it was it's almost like he's heard me talking major trash about him because he came out he bought on Sunday, so I thought maybe we need to delay your flight until next week after the Chargers

Joe Malkin:

leave him in LA next week.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Just leave him out. Leila. go chill with Dave What's your day about that? I'm just like, bro like he's been telling me like maybe 30 at all just want to talk to Brenda boarders like yo and I gray that's not all on on Brenda border because the guy is just who jobs would you get better MGB show.com Go get that t shirt go get that merchandise but yeah like he's it's just like it blows my mind how many times in the game or third? Bro like I just I don't have confidence to get that so

Unknown:

first my shirt

Rayshawn Buchanan:

right back LC and it's too sweet what a yes I'm just like yeah so we have we definitely different that said listen I wanted to play well we I mean I just more we need him to play well off also to the winner bring this up. Listen bill I know you like to send messages can you Did anyone come Berlin suitable and there were other players. We do not have the we don't have the talent to set players play ever monitors it was said everyone is under shoulder Lucia healthy scratch. Yeah, I don't I don't know. But I don't care what he was. I want I do him on the field. Oh, he was okay. So that's it done for time to share. I need to get on the field. Everyone in the group chat knows how I felt about him good. I've been screaming his name since the preseason. Like, at events. I saw his tape after they drafted I'm like, yo, this guy is the Gary bloodwood past catches scale is like I need him on the field. So even if it's a five to 10 plays like near him on the field for third downs, the mortality that better it's not about the scheme at all today one single high safety order you run a cover three or they run a niche. Who cares? The more talent on the field that better Steven Pinker wrote over people I said border guests could be over liable I get that but romaji Stevens just didn't play so hopefully he played it next week against all the charges the charges typically do have smaller players on defense so maybe this is a game there seem to say gets in and and starts to dominate but they need all the help they can get offensively and just don't get Don't believe the hype says you scored 54 Because that chargers team can go and it will not be a 43 to zero performance. I mean, it could be but what if it could be but I mean, come on. I just I don't see that happen. It

Joe Malkin:

was Dont'a Hightower injured

Craig D'Alessandro:

or was you know the scratch he was injured he meant he was limited for a couple of practices. It typically when you miss practice on Friday in the Patriot system, you don't play on Sunday. So let's

Joe Malkin:

put it this way than right What if Dont'a Hightower was able to go Sunday? But they sat him out and said we're not going to need you because of the jet scheme and then send the same thing to reminder Stevens in and we're like, hey, you know, maybe he is banged up because he's been banged up early on and not not like he's been getting a whole hell of a lot of carries but there's been some points where he's been slow to get up. What if he was what if he was sat down? And I agree with you? Don't This isn't the time to necessarily be suing players especially young players in the game like this? Like this could have been a breakout game for a minor Stephenson but what have built things in the more highly and knows that his running back core is not it's not bad. I mean, it's not bad. He's got four good serviceable running backs had five James White gets hurt, but what if that's kind of what it was like, Hey, we were gonna need you in bigger spots. So this weekend, take a breather. We'll see you in LA.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Yeah, I mean, I really hope that that's the case and I hope he has that message that you have there. I'd like to I'm just because I'm biased towards hogs even play already on my I want him on the field so I don't care if it's a five snaps 10 snaps like silly even if he's a decoy I just have him up there but I felt like he genuine more than not makes positive placements out there. Yes, you had a fumble that you know, once you fumble you become you know in the doc doesn't mean we get that but we saw thing in the Houston game day, you know, when he gets the ball, his bowling ball season's running people over, you know, do it as best you know, they're carrying oppression. So we need that lesson. I'm a big Damien Harris guy too. So I'm glad that he was able to get 100 yards on he runs really hard. And you know those tree trunks away really served him well as he always shows in practice. It just been awesome. So yeah, I'd like to I just I do hope that you're writing that and I regard he said know what, you know, we may need you for the Chargers more than we need you for the Jets. And you know, I think to wrap this up by saying it doesn't matter who's behind center was on defense. And it was Aaron Rodgers, we own you who still we still own you. Doesn't matter who's playing we own the Jets. So that's good to know.

Joe Malkin:

So From a bigger picture, the the Patriots are now three and four their game and a half behind the bills who had a bye week this week so the dolphins lose the Jets lose obviously because we beat the Patriots are three and four. The bills I still believe are a wagon. I just think the Buffalo Bills are a wagon of a team, their foreign you look at the rest of the the AFC the AFC West is very intriguing. I think the Raiders have played harder since Jon Gruden left. The charters are a very good team. Those teams are five and two, four and two respectively. So again, the Patriots are going to play another team coming off of a buy here in the coming week. Like they just did with the jets. The Chiefs are three and four which was surprising we can talk about that in a minute because I know Craig has some opinions on a certain quarterback in Kansas, Missouri. Broncos three and four. Not that's kind of the that I think the Patriots three and four is less impressive than the Broncos three and four. But I think the Patriots are a better team than the Broncos. Bengals are five into which they just beat the crap out of the ravens, which was surprising to I think everyone probably including Bengals fans, the Browns are flowing three. The Steelers are three and three. The AFC is pretty good. It's not It's top heavy. Consider all things considered because the Titans are fighting to the call two, three and four. A lot of people are getting worried about the Patriots and have would have given up maybe at this point seven weeks through a 16 week or 16 game season. It's now 17 games. And I see seven weeks being three and four. Not as detrimental as a lot of other people because an eight nine team may get into the playoffs. And that may very well be your New England Patriots.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Yeah, no, that's, I mean, that's fair to say. I mean, obviously we don't want it to get to know, a team obviously. I think just from a comfortable start, they can get to 10 Seven. Oh, I think that would be at to me, I think they're still doable to get to 10 and seven so they had to go 73 I think the rest of them say to get there so I think that's doable now I'm not gonna lie before to just get my was like outside of this just game I told a few friends and but I'm like, I don't know if they win at this game. So that's that's how I stopped by so if you haven't used the game, after the Cowboys game, I'm just like, if you keep losing games that you know you're in, it's like, oh, well,

Joe Malkin:

you know,

Rayshawn Buchanan:

we were white. There was a for a miss film. That wasn't for a miss catch by I was just like, Yo, like, how many times are we going to have those type of opportunities? But yeah, but like you said, Man, today MC definitely wide open. We devilish. It's us on the chiefs. Because listen, if you had told me several weeks that we were going to be tied with them. I'm like, great, it was five to two and they were five or two or four, three, or six or whatever. But hey, we're both three or four. And I'm not as I'm not as upset. So they decided to be their favorites. I'm like, hey, you know, listen, we all were white, therefore he didn't be baby, let's get

Joe Malkin:

on and so funny because for 20 years, people were you know, every time we would lose, or we would start to into like in 2014. And, you know, we would we had that quarterback, we had the best quarterback in the league, and we would start off not so well and people would get down their throats. And you know, and now I see it from an outsider's point of view. And I go, Wait a minute, just give it give it a little bit of time. Just give it some time. Because this chiefs team is better than a season. They have the same coaching staff. They have the same team that they had last year, nothing has changed. And they went to the Super Bowl and they lost a Tom Brady. I'm not gonna hold it against them. They are a good football team with a very good two great quarterback Craig. That is going around for a very long time, Craig, maybe they're having a bad start. And that's okay, that starts happening. Three, three and four is not so bad. Three and Four looks a lot better than two and five. And yes, I am going to sit here and I'm going to defend the Kansas City Chiefs because they've they launched by a point to the Ravens. They beat the they beat the guard while I was preseason. They beat the browns in the opening week. They lost the Cardinals. They lost the chargers, right so browns, ravens, chargers, three very good teams. Then they beat the eagles they should have be. Then they played the bills. Very good team. They played Washington good defense blew him out. Then the Titans blew them out in Nissan stadium down in Nashville, which should have when I got the Giants. They're probably going to be the Giants probably gonna play the Packers. They got to play the Raiders. They got to play the Cowboys. They got to play the Raiders game. They still got to play the bangles. I mean, they got a tough schedule, man. I mean, they gotta they have a really tough schedule. And if this was the year that they missed the playoffs, or that they get bounced in the wildcard round. So be it So what? Somewhat they're still the best team in the NFL. In my mind,

Rayshawn Buchanan:

I mean, I'm not I'm not sitting here did they do honestly? Well, yeah, no, we got hated. We got hated for 20 years why? And that said no. Once again, it's ironic that we were told to the year that we got smacked in Kansas City. Right. So it's ironic how that's the case.

Craig D'Alessandro:

So who knows, maybe even wants to enroll. They're just saying,

Rayshawn Buchanan:

right, exactly what a suitable day. Right? So this

Joe Malkin:

is my point. That's why this team could turn around and give the double birds to everybody.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

I mean, that's a chance for majome signatures. Oh, well, I mean, there's a chance

Joe Malkin:

there's always a chance for Matt Johnson. Is it? Listen, you look at the standings. I mean, I It's dolphins, the Jets aren't going to the Superbowl the Jaguars and the Texans are going to sue or war the the Giants and the Eagles by going to war. But even the Seahawks two and five that team can turn around and get to the playoffs with the Wilson know now without wrestlers. Alright, I can't I can't believe now we're gonna talk about that because Geno Smith is a better quarterback than his can coach gives him credit for sure he's a better quarterback than his head coach gives him credit for no listen, right? Because

Rayshawn Buchanan:

I'm awfully listed.

Joe Malkin:

I'm all ears. I'm all ears. He Carroll his quarterback is Russell Wilson. Right? Direct Mail. Bella Tex quarterback is Tom Brady. It's just it's the way the world works. But those things are are together. It's like peanut butter and jelly. You take Geno Smith, and you put them in there. He knows right away. That is a Russell Wilson. So now he starts handicapping them. Just like Bill's been handicapping Mack Jones all season and I'm gonna throw that out there because he has been handicapping them. And he finally got us flying this weekend. And look what happened when he let it fly. The kids smart they can make the throws back to Geno Smith. Geno Smith is not a bad NFL backup NFL quarterback and he's not necessarily there to play for four or five weeks at a time. So you got to take what you can get from them. But he's not as bad as he I mean, they were lost 1310 The other night because the Seahawks defense played pretty well. Yeah, but but after the 84 yard touchdown pass on Monday Night Football DK Metcalf, which helped me win my fantasy football matchup in another league not entirely after that Pete Carroll stopped throw and started hitting the ball off to the backup running back who was very good, but it's not Chris Carson. Well, Chris Carson isn't Aaron Jones either. So my point is Geno Smith is being misused by Pete Carroll and Pete Carroll is literally just trying to keep the bandaid on until he addressed back and now it doesn't look like it's gonna be for another two or three weeks. So Jean Jean Osman. He's a better quarterback than he's getting credit for. And it's better quarterback than what he looked like on Monday in football.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

So So basically you're saying that he could be with Teddy Bridgewater was for the same seven years ago. Which of us was out? Yeah,

Joe Malkin:

absolutely. I don't think I don't necessarily think Geno Smith is as good as Teddy Bridgewater. But I think if you used your I mean, why do you assign the guy like Geno Smith when you have a guy like Russell Wilson, because we're looking to emulate that dynamic gameplay, right? If you have two very different quarterbacks, if you have Mack Jones and Cam Newton, those are two very different quarterbacks, you have to write two very different offenses. If Russell Wilson Geno Smith, Geno Smith is the bargain brand basement version of Russell Wilson. So let him play like that. Let them play that way. I mean, look at even with the chiefs. You look at the Chiefs last year when What's His face had to come in for Matt now as a member, Matt Moore has to come in for for Craig's wire names escaping me Patrick mahomes, when the bane of my existence Mom's not the same guy, but they ran the same offense. They just ran the same offense and said, Listen, this is our offense. We have a guy that can run it behind our guy if something happens, let Geno Smith run the offense. Because with the cartels and the Rams up top of that division, if you don't let him run your offense, you're in big trouble.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Yeah, no, I mean, that's fair. I mean, you definitely gave me a different perspective on jado like I I've been out for a while.

Joe Malkin:

We know Geno Smith with the Jets. Yeah, yeah,

Rayshawn Buchanan:

exactly. So for him to be a jet imageable add more I was a dumbass he got the new car truck but that's a whole nother topic for another day. Yeah, I mean listen if he's if he's able to emulate what Teddy Dennis and enrollees, and yet they got a shot but the way Kyler Murray is playing the way that Matthew Stafford is playing even though I thought he witnessed the vision before you know everything has unfolded. You know, dead eye catching and eye catching neither one of those seems.

Joe Malkin:

How right was Mike about about the Rams this year? How right was he about that team?

Rayshawn Buchanan:

About the MIR really good? Yeah, yeah, no. No, I mean, listen, we looked at Stafford because of the uniform and said warriors to Troy. He's putting up numbers on a bad team. And you know, remember I've said on the show before, that's the guy I wanted. He was the He got when he was ready. We said that Brady was leaving. And we know we did our reunion show before we made this a real thing. I'm like, yo, if you could go get Matthew Stafford to replace Brady? Absolutely. What are we talking about? Pushing that a guy like that he's only early 30s. He gets like, it lets it that game after. That's all NFL films. You know, when he his rookie year, just Cleveland when he separated soda. It was like, I'm finishing it. I was like, Yo, just do this tough, like all rock with him any day of the week. So he was I was a fan since then. So yeah. Would you guys like Cooper cup? You know, you know, Robert was, you know, I mean, Sony Michel started dumber. So I mean, I guess, you know, we're not really missing him from a depth standpoint. But, um, you know, they have a lot of talent over there. And then when you have the deepest they have with Ramsey being able to play every position in the secondary army or he's on a row. Thank God. We call him early. And Jackson though, because had they stayed over there. They might have got us eventually. He's really good. You know, obviously, they had the best defensive tackle maybe of all time. And that's not exaggerating. Just watch the tape. Aaron, Donald's phenomenal. Maybe the best is Reggie White, and we want to pay homage to the past. But yeah, that that Rammstein was phenomenal. And Stafford being more than a marginal upgrade over Jared Goff over over Ryan Gosling is phenomenal. It's phenomenal.

Joe Malkin:

Scott was good drop. Yeah, no, I mean, my nail on the head. I think we knew it was gonna happen. But Mike was like, watch this guy go out here and this rams team is gonna ball. And they did because Jared Goff was clearly not the quarterback. Everybody thought he was in Detroit, figuring that out, you know, like, Geno Smith greater than Jared Goff. So,

Rayshawn Buchanan:

if I mean, that and that that's wild, but it's like get that should not be the case. But it is like it was only seven days or something like that. That is you got the you got your head coach fucking crying after week five, like, Yo, like, I love this team. It's like cut it out. And like he's an emotional meathead.

Joe Malkin:

He's an emotion. Hey, man, that kid

Rayshawn Buchanan:

called Yeah, call it what you will. But I'm like, damn, bro, you went from from trouble by buying a kneecap. So now you cry in a week five fair week. 516 at the knees again. They kind of got to the playoffs. Like my case back in the day. You know, you're alluding to the bullshit to this bullshit, Dan. It's bullshit. What are we doing? Why are you trying out the week five. So man, I just want to wait for these guys. You should want to wait for you dad. You should want to wait for you.

Joe Malkin:

No other team has ever lost to 60 plus yard field goals in a season

Rayshawn Buchanan:

and that's why like it's just I know for a fact that they are up say 21 to 20 with 45 seconds left white every fan of for field or wherever they are going to go crazy. This is like we're going to lose by I feel so whether it's Tucker,

Joe Malkin:

whether it's Justin Tucker is the greatest of all time.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

So just just that's why we get on my fantasy like I'm biased. I'll never forget another kicker like I would always pick your first about a bye bye good but I guess just ridiculous but just a sucker is phenomenal. I love a lot love soccer love it what

Craig D'Alessandro:

I don't want to rabbit hole this but better than Terry from.

Joe Malkin:

I mean, he's more. He's probably we'd have to look at all the numbers rightly let's put the Terry and Tucker side by side. I think Tucker is oh, maybe a half a notch to a notch better than monetary. And yeah. Listen, everybody. I'll do roving with Terry kicked the two field goals. You want us to Super Bowl he did? Yep. Yep, he did. 48 yards. I was there watched it happen. 48 yards in the Superdome. Never seen my father cry before that moment. I get it. I'm there. But watch what Justin Tucker does on a regular basis. And that team would not have won some of the games that they've won. Well, if it's not for him, and granted military is the same way. Right. But Justin Tucker has put that team on his back. And for a kicker to do that. It's out. It's amazing.

Craig D'Alessandro:

What's Justin Tucker? I would say that for a longer period of time there has been this added Viteri kind of feeling just kind of forgotten when he was in Indianapolis. With Justin tacker people for a long time Bill does who's the best kicker in the NFL bulimia when Justin Tucker doesn't talk wasn't even a question via military people kind of question that for a little bit. And maybe the stats don't bear that out. But as far as like

Joe Malkin:

the Super Bowl win Exactly. No, I mean, Adam and Attari is one of the most decorated kickers of all time and that you will never ever, ever be able to take away from him. He's a first ballot Hall of Famer. And if he's not, there's there's a problem in in,

Rayshawn Buchanan:

in Ohio, for sure. For sure. I also think that the success of Gus Koski changed our perception out I mentioned a little bit too because before before a couple years ago just Koski was the most accurate kicker of all time I think he became the all top points that he was money from during the day one so you want to talk about going from maybe like the kicker version of bread farm to go and set kicker versus Aaron Rodgers but that's exactly what it was like you literally just walked into greatness from day one and two out of six and for 13 years here he was the man every week so I think that's what kind of diminish that so gosh, I love that we can have this conversation here because not too many souls are gonna talk about brick kickers we're out how they weren't but kickers we love we love every aspect of the game so that's what it is but yeah, that I think is yeah Gus CASA is greatness just right out the victory left to go to Indianapolis to name one right away when he got there all kind of changed the perspective of what we thought he was even though New England fares No, no, we haven't near and dear to our hearts that what do you get in because of one region two other three meals out windows seven Championships will forever be noticed. And you know, should be remembered that emoji was a phenomenal player. And as you said, easily first ballin, that was the dignity to accept their incentive system down here again.

Joe Malkin:

So it's so interesting, because I think back of now, like we're old enough to where our parents generation, and our grandparents generation saw these guys playing, they're like, wow, you know, you never got to see this guy play or you never got to see that and never got, you know, like, I think about my kids. My kids never are never well, they've gotten to see Tom Brady play, but they don't really know who he is, or only three in two, but they can't really understand what they're watching. But they never got to see van Attari just like we never got to see like bland or, you know, why a Tittle or you know, we never got to see these guys. I know why. tittel just a random name to throw out there. But like, bring it back to New England. God rest his soul Sandman Cunningham. We never got to see him play. You know, we never we know who Andre Tippett is, but we never got to see him play John Hannah, because we're, we were right born right at the end of their career. So we see that stuff. So it's just, it's so interesting now to be able to go through three generations of kickers I mean, vegetarian was here from 96 to oh, five, and then, you know, they brought in, they brought in ghost out Gus Koski. And he was here for 13 years now we're on the MC fold. But you still have Justin Tucker, who's not very old, and he's still kicking and he literally, pun intended. And it's just great to see I mean, what's that? Yeah, thank you. But I mean, Kiger figures are a big part of the game of football and they always have been and I don't know how we got on this kicker kick but I love every I love every second of it. So and I you know what, I get rams for it all the time, man. I don't care. I they're just like offensive lineman kickers are underappreciated. So, but so, like looking at the NFL as a whole. Well, we've as we record this, we've now started week eight of the NFL season. The Cardinals are the leaders in the clubhouse with the seven I'll record you Henry hoppecke Tata Hello, move tonight. What's up? Andre Hopkinton? I held off tonight. Yeah, and he got called a facemask ah, and it got called back. So cheese. Edmonds ended up scoring a touchdown. And Aaron Jones just scored a touchdown for the Packers. So that's a whoever the heck I'm playing in our fantasy league this week have been on a tear lately. So but anyway, so yeah, so Ray, I just it's been a very interesting season. It's been very intriguing. Dave has said multiple times. This might be the most exciting NFL season we've had in a long time. Just because of the circumstances, the movements. It's a new generation of players in the NFL from a lot of standpoints. We have a lot of young, a lot of young players, whether it's quarterbacks wide receivers, Jamal Chase is a man amongst boys. I mean, that kid that you know, when he got it, he got into some trouble at the beginning of the season, which has kind of been buried. I don't know if it's just been taking whatever. I don't know enough about it. It was another

Craig D'Alessandro:

case but we were talking about earlier if the you know, misquoting really.

Joe Malkin:

Yeah. Right. And all right.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Yeah, exactly right in

Joe Malkin:

this kid when they drafted him, and I'm sure Joe Burrell had something to do with it. Because they said we're gonna get these 12 guys back together. And we're gonna see what happens and Jabbar Chase has been stuck on a biggie. He's just been outstanding. He's a top 10 receiver in the NFL. He's a rookie. I mean, it's just that's just plain and simple in the bangles are very impressive to me. If they can keep up what they're doing. I mean, they could they could win that division because the Steelers don't look good, but the Browns look alright. And the ravens are fine. But Bengals are beating up on some pretty good teams. Yeah,

Rayshawn Buchanan:

I mean, listen all. I think they kind of won a flak for taking, you know, Chase at five because it was like, Oh, well, you know, Joe burrow just got hurt last year. You need to protect them. So people say it's a penny a soul. They would say take care of taking the shots later to kick us out of Northwestern news and take him down with to the Chargers. So there was a few guys that went in love the word who was out to Alabama to Vegas, like, so there was a few guys that was in that job that well, frankly, I was asked to take a deposition, but it's like, Look, if you look into Botha diner Magoffin so they have mentioned there, you know, now you got chased the guy, your guy for a day, they have a squad there, and your defensively their way, they're way better than I thought the day would be all but I think, you know, winning changes that and winning allows you to kind of, you know, kind of play over your head, so to speak. And that's what's happening right now. Right? So, and I think that ravens game was really what kind of stamped them as a team that may be for real if you forget, cuz, you know, we got jaded. During the Marvin Marvin Lewis era, Cincinnati was very competitive on the market. Marvin Lewis, did they win a championship? No, but I mean, all day says that he's ever wanted being a professional sports boy, not football anyways, you know, they're less everything was multiples, obviously, but it's just like, they've been competitive. So Burr was already a million times better. You know what, you know, the red right. Red rocker was, you know, shots any dog but you know, he just wasn't that guy compared to Joe burrow. And you know, they found a quarterback of the future. So now there's like, Okay, it's time to eat and they're, they're eating up on everybody they need to. And you know, this Craig shared on Tik Tok A while back, you know, that song, they understood the assignment Cincinnati, it's understood the assignment, and they're smacking everybody they can, as they was the AFC north, whether it's the AFC, west, south, whatever direction you want. They're kicking ass and taking names. That's what they're doing. So

Joe Malkin:

number one, remember when I had Zach Taylor out as the first NFL head coach to be out how wrong was I'm glad I was drunk, because it's kind of that was it? But maybe it wasn't bad. Maybe they were just building the team and they lost their franchise quarterback in week three of the NFL season of his rookie year, you know what I mean? Like, it just yeah, it takes time to build and I think this is going a little bit deeper into some of the issues in sports and coaching. A lot of times, coaches aren't given the opportunity to build the program. And that's why you see some of these guys in and out in a year. You know, like Vic Fangio has been in Denver because they've been trying to build around the coach and get the players going, and I thought this year was gonna be the year the way they started. I don't like vich. Vic Fangio. I think he might be the first one out. They've done the same thing with Matt naggy in Chicago. They've tried to build, they've tried to give him the time to do it. And he hasn't been able to Zach Taylor, has been given the time, and has now been given the pieces. And you have a very young head coach with a very young quarterback with a very young number one wide receiver, and it's looking like if they can keep things going and keep that together. They can make something happen in Cincinnati. And that's what it's about is you can't give it so like you look at those other coaches you look at the Fangio is and the Nag is you got to give them time, you got to give them time, even if it sucks for a year or two. You know, it's like the college coaches. It takes four years for a cycle of kids to go through no matter what sport it is, no matter what college it is, no matter what level it is. It's gonna take a coach three years to really get a feel. And if it's not working out to the third year, that's when you kind of look at and go, All right, we're not going in a direction. But after year one, year two, unless something like Jon Gruden situation happens, you got to give these team times these teams time to do what they need to do. And I'm glad that they gave Zach Taylor that opportunity because I was wrong. I had him out the door. And I should have thought more along what I just said instead of just having them out the door.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Well, I mean, to be fair, we all did. Like we said it's all Isola, we was like Joe, Your Honor. He was like Yeah, and so like you're spot on has asked to be out of there. And yeah, I mean it at him come back in a major way. And I said now they're balling we owe another guy. You know, they talked about first year coaching session coming out to somebody was a guy, it was down to Miami. Dennis Erickson came in right after Jimmie Johnson, and they won right away over there too. So, you know, it's very rare that it happens when you can get a program right away. That's not the Jon Gruden type situation. But yeah, I mean, let's say top coaching definitely matters. But yeah, you have to allow every owner is not more to me, but Robert Kraft has been and just letting him you know, basically as Bill Parcells said back in the day, yeah, let me you know, shop for the groceries. He's like billets are for the groceries, do everything he needs to do, but a lot of owners have not been as patient. I mean, how dirty Jones had the clapper in there for 10 years, you know, went through a few eignet seasons went through a couple times where they were fortunate three and yesterday they had some success and won a couple of playoff games. But you know, it does take a while but at some point enough, is enough. Which is why you know, but at the same time if Marvin Lewis all those years, Zack Taylor should get, you know, at least four or five at least let's say you don't keep doing the same thing. over and over again but once again if he's burning this type of program and they're killing it out there listen by vibe that way this you're back in the boomer size the size and date let's

Joe Malkin:

go right well let's go and that's why I want them playing as well as they are you know you give them this year is let's see what happens this is this is the let's see what happens here. And then if they really do well next year is the year where they're really going to push for it and it really keep it together. I think they're coming into it at a really good time because Pittsburgh is down Baltimore isn't down but they're not up there kind of Baltimore right now let's see what happens they're not a bad football team they're actually pretty good football team I mean they've kept

Rayshawn Buchanan:

together and that lead to injuries to catch up to them or they will catch up so they got they just got smacked like that that's just what it is like that happened healthy and not Is he the end of the NFL the NFL they're professionals and he gave us money right you can you can get you can get your share rock that's what happened. Um, Lamar has turned the corner and my bail I said me and Mike have had arguments off off air and on the air about this. I'm a little more Jackson supporter, but obviously he didn't show up on Sunday but he has turned the corner as to me as a passer Hollywood Brown is final. Lee, you know, activate my cousin because I'm Hollywood. Hollywood Brown. He's president and he's finally he he's finally playing better.

Joe Malkin:

To be a real receiver. He's not just a deep threat he's adjusted to my actual NFL

Rayshawn Buchanan:

OC. Why? Cuz I'm like, my thing is it can't be national tennis every day with Mark Andrews. It can't just be him there. That's the case you only don't have this is like alright, this is no different. That Philip Riverstone will Tonio gates all those years and work. But it was used to San Diego at the time and in Los Angeles. So it's like, yeah, if you're right, it did work. But it's like, that's nice. It's a new day. It's a new day. He's athletes. And you know, Mark Andrews and Antonio Casey. 30

Joe Malkin:

plus feet. I don't know.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Yeah, he's good. Data. He data. Sorry, ain't he ain't no baby. Fine. So that that's

Joe Malkin:

all so right. I'm gonna I'm gonna really change gears are needed here. I think we could go on. I think we could go on above the NFL. Greg, you got any more NFL points? No, we've said our piece. Are you

Rayshawn Buchanan:

talking about the ball OSHA does Why am I

Craig D'Alessandro:

saying? I'm saying I say

Joe Malkin:

that. I'll stand here and defend my home to the death. Yeah,

Rayshawn Buchanan:

I'm ready for that though. When I look, let's get go. It

Joe Malkin:

is waiting for it to be all six of us so we can yell.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Right, right

Craig D'Alessandro:

right back right now. And then what's best for me I can just disappear.

Joe Malkin:

Oh, Ray, the anger and sadness. You said you were feeling towards the Patriots during some of their games this weekend. You and I were pretty fired up about their Houston game. To the point where I usually don't go to Twitter. But I went to Twitter and it was really embarrassing. What I should have done is waited until the ALCS how upset are you with our Boston Red Sox?

Rayshawn Buchanan:

So I'm not I mean, I'm on set with the finish. Cuz obviously I felt like it could eventually win seven. But listen, from a team that we wrote off at the beginning of our we did our baseball preview and Brad today got smoked by the Baltimore Orioles early or they look to season may be done of advice that I brought up before. I do think at the end of the year I said they may find a way to eke out 90 wins and he did day 192 Of God just felt like okay, we're down on the page and we're down or something's like I said, How funny would it be if the rest of the team that we latched on to exactly what happened? Right? They took us on a ride? No, what I said was that this wasn't the impossible dream. You know, this was a gym laborious wasn't, you know, the cost of fist waving the hand is 75. You know, it wasn't at 61. But you know, are you just this time close to the 81 they had called Morgause magic, this is probably closer to that type of season. Also, sealer didn't really do much the year before they come back. And they find a way to get to the American League Championship Series, all where you know, a dove laser, but it seemed in this case, you still with the better team listen to bats, the basses went, you know, as quiet as a mouse. And, you know, in games two and three they had is on the highest of highs and you know, between the sticky stuff and some other stuff was going on. He still found a way to get it done. You know, my only thing is I'm just mad that we didn't flash that stuff, too. So. So we could have been fates on the race in the World Series. That's fine. That's the only thing I'm mad about not mad. I'm outside Britain. I would love to see him. I will say I would love to see them against the bridge. And I hope the Braves need to run with the brakes off of all. Brace. I'll use that. But yeah, I said overall, it was a great season. They went further than any of us expected. And if we say different, we're lying. And yeah, I mean, you know, I mean, you got to actually I think it's actually perfect that you were not on the show. I think we made you Joe talked about I said well maybe this could be the old two or three restaurants We talked about that. Here's what I mean. They're a year away. I'm like, well, let's see. And once again, we kind of do it out there kind of like a you know, sauna doc, but you know, we were right. They were so they were dating. So hopefully next year, they they're getting to the World Series then. So, but no, not not that upset, though. But I'm actually I wish we had a different outcome. But it's I was on a good ride

Joe Malkin:

ownership treated this team like they were a year away. But they didn't start treating them like they were a year away until they were really good at the beginning of the season. And I said, I said in that previous show, and I said and midway through the season, we got to watch out for this because this is going to be like those teams in the 90s. The 80s in the 90s and the early 2000s. Where it ends up, you know, they blow us out of the water in the first half of the season in the second half of the season. They kind of just spluttered to the finish, and then well, better luck next year. No, there's always next year. And while they were in 92, wins season, and I had them a little above 500. I think I had them at like 85 wins. I actually went further. You're right. I'd be lying if I said they that they didn't go as far or they went. They went further than I thought they went further than I thought they would. Let's keep it simple. Right? And I wouldn't be lying if I said otherwise. That's better. Thanks, Craig. Rago. Yeah, so, but I'm disappointed. I'm upset. I'm upsetting. Because I we were fed more BS down the line down the road, we were just fed the BS. And that's a 92 win team that sputtered and could have done better because they stayed healthy. And besides the spot where they got Coke, where the guy started going down with COVID, that was understandable why you might lose some games in there might lose some momentum. This should have been 100 winning team. This should have been 100 Win team, the way they were at the All Star break where they came from how they played against the Yankees down down the stretch, and then sure, and then they get to the playoffs. And they they surprise us all by beating the Yankees in the wild card game. And now we're all back on board now. It's a Red Sox World Series. Yeah, now we sound like Cowboys fans. So you send the paid the Patriot do send the Red Sox to the divisional series. And they go out and they win it. And they beat one of the best teams in Major League Baseball. So now they've beat decently race. Right? So they beat the Yankees and they beat the race. They beat divisional opponents. Now they go up against the Astros and we're riding high, and then they lose. Well, now management is treating it as well. We're just a year away. And we got to the we got to the ALCS. And you know, and you hear all the rhetoric from Alex Cora, I almost got tired of him too, because he a couple of years ago, he wasn't talking like John Henry talks when sitting at the picnic bench at Fenway south in Fort Myers, where it's just feeding us this crap of what we're gonna see and what he hopes to have and what and it's just like, I don't want to hear that. And I don't want to hear it from the manager. I want to hear the truth and honesty from Alex Cora, that he would tell us in 2018 2019, that's what I want to hear from that guy. I don't want to hear this rhetoric about how our pitching was and should have been and how our hitting, you know, wasn't as good as it like, Don't feed me the crap. Don't tell me it's gonna get better, because do better. Right? This team, the way they started? The way they played in the playoffs? Not how they finished in the ALCS? Yes, when further than we thought they were going to go in April, they should have gone further than they did. Because they're a better team than what they were at the end of the season in the ALCS. They're a better team, they should have won 100 games. And I think I'm partly biased because I just don't like John Henry. I don't like to Fenway group, I think they're, I think their ownership style is very much. We're going to get everybody excited. So we can get the money. We'll keep them chomping at the bit and then every couple of years we'll go win a championship and that's great. You know what, I think Mike has said it to me before, or Dave, wouldn't you rather go get a championship every couple years? We have I don't want to be at the bottom of the basement or not competing. Not that we're not competing. They were 92 games they went to the ALCS wasn't enough.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Right. I think that, um, date, that trade deadline is what changed the perception. I think within the club. I was right. It was overblown for local media, different talk shows talked about it. You know, we sort of said, What do you mean, like, was it overblown? You mean? Yeah. I mean, I mean, I felt like guys like Tomasi and no, they were just kind of like oh, like you know, we'll, I'm maybe hobos out the word, but I felt like they he was killing it was killing him.

Craig D'Alessandro:

God, God, they were leading division by like seven games to that point needed. That extra exclamation. 1.2 really kind of put them over the top and they didn't get

Rayshawn Buchanan:

to truth be told well, but my thing is I disagree that I okay from a pitching standpoint No, they didn't get that Sure. Yeah Kyle Schwarber was fucking amazing down till

Craig D'Alessandro:

like six weeks after the trade deadline

Joe Malkin:

so it was when they got

Rayshawn Buchanan:

back to the moment he was on he was great for us so I got to me that parcel washed like hi Bring him over here because there's not too many I know they didn't want Anthony but they want to interview this up let's be real people say even myself was saying go get results from the club like that people saying it so the fact that he was okay you know what I'm gonna get short with someone who was on base guide which has been their philosophy since the OFC days you'll get some of that going on based on what's going to draw Washington see wasn't really draw walks you know, shorter was on base percentage machining OBS guy so he was great from that standpoint, and people was getting on the road bus thing. Robots for five weeks and not give up overall and he didn't give him a run for five weeks.

Joe Malkin:

He thought he was gonna Yeah, me too. Right

Rayshawn Buchanan:

exactly. So I'm just like the facts I'm like, they're like you said you like the pieces were there. But yeah, it was overstated to me that there was like well, you know, where it kind of took the wind out of their sails? Because that became the narrative immediately after the trigger a lot and I get it should they have given up craze guy Jared Duran for back shares that you didn't record I cannot oh, god i That's it me blows that we want to talk about email you do everything we might talk about selfies at the end but you want some awesome a mind boggling to see you using just as presser Oh, you know and the game last night. It's mind boggling to me that a guy that was even on your fucking postseason roster could get dealt for Max Scherzer. You couldn't get rid of that guy. We're not talking about casters. I'm not talking about guys with you couldn't get them to random some other pieces to go get shirts at that time. That that would have been a huge jump for this team. And Windows, maybe they do get to 100 games at night when they come to Fenway Park Scherzer in the World Series could have been he's not but I on this on this team on this roster. I did not they they would have got there. And I understand that the Dodgers are they were a wagon way outside of the Mickey Mouse season last year, when they get to the postseason. They have chosen the Dave Roberts. So they've been what they've been. So then there's rain, they all who thought they were they they always fall at this moment. So they got through a short season. And they had the best team in a short season, which is why they end up winning in my opinion, neutral site all that good stuff they want. Great, awesome. Congrats. Oh, they robbed

Joe Malkin:

by looking at what they gave up for Schwarber. Who was I mean, Washington was gonna deal him no matter what. Our list. Yeah. And looking at Anthony Rizzo, because Chicago was gonna deal with him no matter what happened. And looking at what the Dodgers gave up for Max Scherzer because they were gonna deal him out of Washington, no matter what happened. You really realistically could have gone and gotten all three of those guys, right now. Now, the reason why they may not have wanted to is because two of those guys, Rizzo and Scherzer, I think would have been rentals. authoraid Milan throwers, shorebirds have the shirt. So had you gone gotten all three. Now you're looking at three rentals for giving up a lot. And Duran Duran is still young, and they may have called him up too early. Now we all were on them about bringing up a lot of the young kids. Because after the break, we thought, wow, while they're they're done, like let's bring up some of the kids and let them get some time. Well, we were wrong. And we may have been wrong about Jarren Duran but we don't know for him. Yeah, let's give him time. Now would would I have traded him for Max Scherzer to go lose in the ALCS? No, right. Like, it's kind of like that. The selling your soul to the devil, if you can promise me Max Scherzer and a World Series? I'll do it. I'll do it yesterday, if you could promise me that we're going to win the World Series. But he's not going to sign back and we lose turn around. I'd still probably take it. Yeah, of course. The World Series.

Craig D'Alessandro:

really gonna try to potential starting centerfielder for one postseason for a World Series.

Joe Malkin:

So we'll say absolutely. Not a season not for an ALCS not for a pennant for a World Series. Why, but my thing is, I know well, hang on. Now, I just went against what I just said about the Fenway group. Notice.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

I knew but but this is my thing, right? Like we already acknowledge all three of a sudden really microbubbles million dollars. This was a wrong that was unexpected, right? Yes. They say we say she don't want 90 games. I mean, they should have won two games. But at the end of the day, they're looking at diets that showed they should have got this far. So my thing is, if you could have pushed back the starters, they'll say, if you're not having a volunteer, or have a pitch, maybe your sales pitch again, three or four, and a Scherzer ivaldi den sale in Iran. Are you kidding me? I'm thinking My chances and then you have helped me better the guys that come after them and you push everyone back down that's my thought process like now granted it's not good nothing's guarantee right in sports like they can happen but I just to me I just you have to you have to boost up your chances and that there would have boosted the chances now to me I think about the right now Reddit Duran could it be someone that's you that comes back and be with Jackie Bradley was defensively and what else but is this fight now like well man to be this coast and not have a horse that can get you there it reared his ugly head at the wrong time. And I just think to me if you want to give it up casters and he wasn't giving up Jared downs and want to give it to those guys that you know we talked about in the system yet Craig can eloquently break down better than all of us for the fall of the mortar if he wasn't giving up those two guys and the deal to me just everything on the table and just my opinion once again if you're if you think you could get there, but once again like Joe said they can get there so it's kind of like well, we'll just kind of see how far we do we'll do a little bit to appease appease the crowd to an extent but I mean Reddit like you don't want to give up your first second or third best possible to get those guys but my thing is I'm always gonna go out the picture you can get the picture even it is for rental do what you can and kind of take care of everything afterwards like hives heat like isn't gonna drop well it just looks like he's gonna drive well I like that I like to shortstop that guy and his job flashy like I think he's just gonna draft well so I trust him to build that go get whoever this is this is not Kansas City. This is not even the Anaheim Angels or sorry Los Angeles Angels wherever you want to go this is not that go get the player go get them go get

Craig D'Alessandro:

all that make sure the trade wasn't even just for Max Scherzer results for Trey Turner to

Rayshawn Buchanan:

right right so you get every so you're gonna go back and watch a clip on the board they did they live with like mere 10 It just bent me over and take my take the chair whoever that's capable on and with you telling me that um they did that directed to be the centerpiece but I'm assigned sales walk with all that data

Joe Malkin:

that would have been after you dropped off Brandon Bolden to be shipped

Rayshawn Buchanan:

that's perfect man. So I thought I forgot all about traits on the outside saying you got to quality guys that's crazy.

Craig D'Alessandro:

The doctors really didn't give us much to get those two either

Rayshawn Buchanan:

actually that's what I'm saying. Yeah, it's always those yeah man I'm like a credit maybe shares that want to kind of off the band no show they had a no trade thanks to me boster wasn't list was on the list of teams that he wasn't going to go to and obviously we're going to trade was that cranky? Because at Green he's basically a corpse you know there's certain guys I think of like new ones he wasn't going to go and get in at the trade deadline but I don't know man. They got to all of you get that guy from San Francisco. I don't know if you go I don't know who they gonna get in the offseason but and we could do a whole offseason preview when we get there but they got to adjust the starting picture and damn damn good way to tell the baby's doing fucked out you just beat them that shit ain't working. They lost in a World Series. Kevin calves had the best picture on the mountain Blake's now and said hey, you know what? Because my tag line of three frickin times I'm going to go sit Blake's now even in a game Why did go home on its own? Let's not follow that. Let's not follow that. We can follow some other stuff

Craig D'Alessandro:

of wow that's not even just Kevin cash. That's baseball man.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

He's the he's the poster child for that guy everybody that goes out but I was like, bro, like, what are you doing like that? That's a knee like that. You don't know what to me here. We want to go back to the eastern series. You're one of them to see what's outside of the sticky stuff but I'm gonna say that that's that should help them when I don't care what we say we want a ball cord you that's fine. Whatever you want to Yeah, well so game whatever you want to call it. Yeah, that game was it was a game for him when he left or if he's in the game for game five wanted to when he left his picture right because he knew especially was dealing. That's old school man. That's like you know what? Y'all can't hit this motherfucker. So guess what? I'm not taking him out. So that's how you managed nothing well, he went fine when the third we may have to worry about the next game so we're gonna team on that Naples Dylan sale was dealing to live in Deutz attended woolswap off like I did here it shows that Sam was dealing next he nicknamed all he was dealing like you have to forget that those moments you got to look at and be like, I can't hit this door until we see a triple go off the wall or either we get a few hits in a row, then we'll think about pulling him but as long as they're swinging and missing on on any piece of that falling. You keep them out there like this. It anything doesn't have to be a great little situation. You could be able to tell them a solution and you could take them out. But I don't know man. That's the bigger one in that series. That game when he was like, You know what? they can hit my guy. I'm keeping them in there, save the bullpen save the series. And now you see them there, they're going back to game three, Titan one, one. So, you know, little things like that matter, I says matters.

Joe Malkin:

So here's a little hitch and the giddy up in 34 days, we may not have an MLB talk about because the CBA expires on December 1. And they've already canceled the winter meetings. Which could mean after a COVID year where the minor leagues got shut down, where they only played 60 games. And we had the commissioner drunk at the final game world series, we could have a work stoppage that could delay the start of spring training. Now, they're saying right now that if there is a work stoppage, it's not going to delay the start of the season when it couldn't believe the start of spring training. So who knows what the hell that means. But nonetheless, that's not good for Major League Baseball, and could be a reason why the Red Sox didn't go out and trade for more guys with expiring contracts. Because there's going to be a lot of changes to the luxury tax. And owners want to implement a salary gap. And I think there shouldn't be a salary gap. But I think it should be based on the NFL salary cap, not the NHL and the NBA salary cap of all time.

Craig D'Alessandro:

But how do you do that in Major League Baseball, the contracts already screwed up as it is when

Joe Malkin:

you have to restructure you have to restructure and that's why it's good to do that's that's that's, that's why there's gonna be a stoppage.

Rayshawn Buchanan:

Listen, we're, we're in the offseason, bro. Like, it's just like you worry about the guys right now.

Craig D'Alessandro:

It's common. No, I

Rayshawn Buchanan:

know. No, I'm saying but you know, I'm saying but I'm saying you saying that's me. What I said hold off for now felt that way. But you're in the moment. They surpass what you thought was gonna be cool was like, You know what? We believe in this team. We're gonna we back y'all. We got y'all. Like, I remember very, they didn't win it. The shape. I'm going into basketball a little bit, but I remember 2010 or 209 season going to 2010 when it's all done and gone back to all the finals. But the year before they missed two games they lose to Orlando and 70 Because KJ got hurt that summer. They say you know what, okay. He said dress things. They go get a sheet of walls. They go there's some other guys some better talent there. You know, when they were a top four seed date and wants to follow you at a loss of seven but it's like Danny said, Okay, we're a few pieces away. We're going to do that. Like that's the type of mentality got to have once again, this Court just won a championship three years ago. So they still had a lot of guys there. Xander, Devers. JD you know, sailing, there was still guys there that won that show 2018. So it sounds like the guys haven't been there. And even guys who brought in ki K, just one last year for Google's been in the playoffs. He played in the real estate a few years ago, like you had guys that are battle tested, all you needed was the extra boost or even two, they got the booster Schwarber they needed the boost and the starting rotation as well. And the fact that they didn't do that, you know, speaks to their ineptitude as an ownership as I was alluding to many times before. So it's ridiculous. But once again, I get it. Four rings in 17 years or 90 years. I get it. It's phenomenal. I we're not we're not knocking out just to me. You could have had a chance at a fifth one. And yes, I get it. Have we become explored? And it city? Yeah, sure. Whatever. Fine. We want you wonder you want to label is that fine. We haven't become Yankees fans, as Mike alluded to in our chat that is far from that. I know you're saying that most of the Patriots won but we're not when I get these fans. We're not screaming 27 rings every time we're messing with six seven times we lose the game or win a game. It's not that serious. All we have the best and you know that that that is what it is. But now we're in an era of restaurants baseball, when the city especially in the winter, they get there because when they've gotten to the World Series The last four times they've won, so they expect them and they get there they're going to win and you're doing whatever you can so what that's adding hopefully a little bit back in the day JD drew Bobby kiltie you know, Mike Clark, you know, I'm just you know, whatever name that's I don't want to go into a rabbit hole I'm just thinking about certain guys that came Mike Napoli you know that there are certain guys you think like okay, Johnny goes, you know, you get certain guys and he kind of did his thing here because Hunter Renfro was better than we expect. They will look better than I was. I thought he was gonna be our Renfro key K. You know, Christian Arroyo. I wish that we got Jose Iglesias back earlier, I do think he would have made a difference in that nine hole. There's a few games where actually he could have got to hit the opposite. Get a button down. That would have changed the flow of the game, but we'll never know cuz he wasn't on the field. He was there to push the cart around. And I just wish he was here to push that card more than that music being a frequent roll series. But that's unfortunate, but I mean, hey, hopefully there's not a work stoppage completely or if it is hopefully it doesn't linger into April and May Because of this any sport that needs to capitalize on how hot they are right now this baseball of the viewership has been way up the dispozici I remember the Ag the Red Sox game was one of the highest watched games have ever on ESPN so that that says a lot so capitalize you know strike while the iron is hot rod man for it do not do not all jet put the jet put the game in jeopardy because you want to appease the owners and I get it you work for the owners. You understand that? But then today, they are not coming to see John Henry they're not coming to see you know the starboard or something that did not come in and I come and see Brian Cashman then I come in to see any of those guys you're coming to see finance I tease it coming to see Devers that come to see JD Martinez that come to see you know, all these great players that Emery MLB has to offer. Yesterday, they're coming to see you're not coming to see on the ship. So find a way to get the deal done so that we get baseball back then, hopefully the rest Oscar saw some some valuable pieces. In the offseason that were saying, you're trying to your 2022 World Champions, or the Boston Red Sox, we can

Joe Malkin:

only hope and we can only help the Major League Baseball can figure it out. Because even at the player level, there's a lot going on there. Although they have said that major league baseball teams will start to pay for housing for their minor league players in 2022. And having known many minor league baseball players through my years of working through the cape League, and those guys get paid peanuts. So now they'll get housing and they will have their pay on top which is a move in the right direction for minor leaguers and guys that you're investing in and if you're going to invest in employees, you need to allow these changes and allow these improvements but right you know, the reason why we don't say sit here and say kiss the rings and six rings and all that, because the greatest quarterback of all time was once asked which one is your favorite Super Bowl ring? And his answer was the next one. Right. Thank you for joining us on missing the point he's raised on Buchanan. I'm Joe Malkin, Craig D'Alessandro our EP. As always we'll talk to you next time.
