Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Missing the Point. It would normally be an MTP Boston episode, but the other boys are on vacation this week. So, uh, we're, we're, we're pinch hitting and we're gonna cover, uh, the amazing, uh, wild Card weekend. Uh, and the Patriots win. I got my guy here, Hollywood Buchanan, uh, the holy one, soon to be, and, uh, we'll be talking everything, but we're gonna start out with the New England Patriots.
16 to three ass whooping of the Los Angeles Chargers.
Mm,
it was a little rocky, but again, Ray, uh, we, it's a win. We have a playoff win under our belt. The first one since 2018.
mm-hmm.
how you feeling? How were you feeling going into that game? 'cause we were texting, you said you were nervous. And talk, talk to me, talk me through your emotions throughout the course of the game.
so, I mean, definitely nervous. 'cause obviously, you know, when you're vested, you know, your, your feelings are different. Um. I believe that they would win. It was just a matter of would it look easy or would it, would it have to be hard? And for many moments of the first half, it looked like it was gonna be a dog fight, and it was.
Um, but you know, thankfully, thankfully Defense said, Hey, you know, not, not today. And they were just phenomenal from, you know, from Snap one to, to snap, you know, to the end of the game. Um, so first half definitely was concerned. Um, you know, I didn't like, you know, uh, what they called, you know, I didn't like their rush integrity.
I felt like Herbert got loose, you know, a few times when he shouldn't have. Um, but they essentially shut down everything else. Um, so my confidence grew as the game went on. Um, but like I said, like you said, the win's a win. And I'm, I'm, I'm excited, um, that we're no longer in year, year zero of the rebuild.
That's right. That's right. And you know, for all those people out there saying that we had an easy schedule, like, uh, if you want to say that the, the Chargers were an easy game, I'd say you can go fuck yourself because any other team, um, uh, that's they, I mean, they won 11 games in the season and they played in one of the hardest divisions. Uh, what I will do, what I will say though, uh, just to temper expectations, because I have a lot I wanna unpack from this game. Um, if, if we wanna talk about how extraordinary our defense was, all for it. But we can, we have to do it with the caveat that offensive line that that LA put out was a practice squad offensive line. It was worse than ours. Ours, you and I were talking with the group, uh, during the game, like rookies started to look like rookies. Well, their unprepared tackles that they had to sub in there because their high paid tackles that they really built in the off season to protect, uh, Herbert, were not there.
Right.
That being said, uh, it, you know, it, it was interesting to hear, uh, that one of the Patriots players said that they were, uh, that they were talking to, I think it was Christian Ellis, right? Uh, uh, that he, he heard from other, uh, chargers at the course of the game, that they had no idea what they were lining up in.
Like they, they had no idea what their scheme was. So what did you think of the defensive play calling throughout the course of the game?
Um, it was the first time where they didn't ease into the game. Usually they ease in team would go up seven, nothing, or three nothing. Then they'd get their bearings from the jump. They was on it from the jump, like, yeah. So, so as soon as the intro music hit, you know, um, they, they was ready. And, um, it was gonna be the biggest test in a while, obviously, you know, um, say what she wrote, Justin Herbert, um.
Regular season, obviously he's done what he's done. Um, but now, you know, you know, he's on the clock too. Right? You know, we've, you know, we're gonna get into some other quarterbacks that, that didn't perform well, this, this, uh, this weekend. But you know, now this is, now he's now on three. And once again, the challenge, it's not like he's, he's not, he's not scrubbed.
So, I mean, let's, we're not gonna sit here and say that and be, be crazy. Um, but he, he leaves a lot to be desired in the postseason and that's putting it nicely. Um, some will say he's just falling in line with what happens in that organization. So whether it's from Dan Fouts, whether it's, uh, don't even remember the quarterback that got smoked in the, um, um, I think it was, I think it might've been Humphreys.
He got smoked, they got smoked against San Francisco, um, in, in 94. Um,
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Um, you know, whether it's our guy Doug Flutie, whether you know what I'm saying, uh, Ryan Lee.
Jrue Brees,
Yeah, you name it. Like, it just, it doesn't matter. Um, you know, once again, had very good teams, have had very good teams in our organization, um, had got to the Super Bowl a couple times, a c championship games many times.
But just when it matters most, they faded into the win, especially if they got face the cold brother team, so.
What I, what I liked the most out of it though was, yeah, they brought pressure at the end, like the second half, they just dialed in, blitzes
Mm-hmm.
but even in the first half when they were getting to 'em, it was on stunts. Like they were still rushing for,
Yeah.
uh, they, they were just flooding the zone and, uh, and they knew the, the, the capabilities or lack thereof of the Chargers offensive line.
Well, but that, that's why I don't have the caveat that you, that you put, um, a few moments ago, um, like I, I don't care what report was out there, it is obvious they said we'll be okay in New England.
Right.
Their past rush is not what it needs to be, period. I, I don't, I, I get it. Rashan Slater from Northwest is really good.
Joel from Notre Dame is really good. And I hope, I think that's gonna be a really good tandem for years to come if they're healthy. Um, firmly believe that. Um, but I, I firmly believe internally they said, uh, we, we can, we can get home. We, we can, we can get by with this line, I guess this team. 'cause Landry doesn't get there.
You know, Milton Williams doesn't get there. You know, chase on every now and then may get there, but not really a home record. Well, the home record 97 showed up and, you know, um, you know, earned his check big time on, on Sunday night. So, um, be careful what you wish for. Uh, you, you wanted Boston and, and, and you got it.
It's so wild to me, knowing what their, like, what, what they lacked on, uh, for protection on offense that they, that they would. They all but chose to play the Patriots. Right. I I do think that they rested Herbert the last game because he's still recovering from that broken left wrist. Yes, sure. But like, they looked at the field and said, you know what?
We'd rather, we'd rather lose this game and, and, and take our chances in New England, which is again, for an organization that has not beat us in the playoffs ever.
Right. Ever.
Like, what are you doing?
Yeah.
matter. Like Yeah, we had Brady Sure, but they had Hall of Fame quarterbacks too, I think. Jrue. Yeah. He's a Hall of Famer.
I think Philip Rib was gonna be the Hall of Fame.
Right,
but you know what, you just mentioned Milton Williams when they needed him. I mean, Mike Vrabel two minutes left, go win the game,
right.
and he fucking did it.
Yep. Could honestly, it, it, it, it. It spooked me how quickly he got there. 'cause I didn't even realize how quick it happened. I literally, I looked up, I was, I I took a sip of water. It was like,
Hmm.
boom. And you heard, I was like, oh, he, he got, he got to him like, wow. Like ball game. Wow. Um, that's why my response was delayed.
I was, I oh, I was, I said, whoa. Like, I didn't, I didn't realize he had got to them that quickly. Um, and just a side note, um, I know he is on a one year deal, regardless of the outcome of this year, you have to bring back Chase on.
Yes.
Um, he, he's been awesome. He's been awesome. Um, like I just, he, he's, he's been really good.
And I, I think that, you know, um, on days where you may not have Landry next season or whoever it may be, like, I just also explains out, like, you, you, you need, you need that guy. Um, you know, he, he, he's been really good for him in, in a limited role as shit. Really good.
Listen, the front seven showed up. But I mean, they dominated,
Defense,
A a as we thought they would. But I wanna talk a little bit about the secondary too, because if you would've, well, if you were gonna tell me walking into that game, uh, that lad, McConkey, Kenan Allen, Quentin Johnson would have a total of eight catches for 80 yards between the three of them. I mean, that's, that's ridiculous.
but
I mean, so, so a lot of those sacks were, were pre, uh, were coverage sacks.
mm-hmm.
How do you think the secondary did?
Um, I mean, we knew this already about him, uh, but Christian Gonzalez is a real deal. Like, because obviously we hadn't seen him in the playoffs yet. Um, and unfortunately, you know, he, he got hurt later in the game, so hopefully he's able to come back, uh, you know, next, next week. Um, but he's real, Woodson is real.
And once again, remember we, we, we were, we were questioning how you let go of Doug and Peppers. How do you, how do you do that? Well, between Winston and Hawkins, like they're, they're, they're, you know, they, they've become a really good tandem. Um, and Colonel Davis has done enough, once again, I, I have not been a supporter.
Um,
Yeah, me neither.
I'm still, I'm still, I'm still on the fence with him. Um, maybe he'll have a Gilmore, I guess Jacksonville moment, later in the playoffs. Um, which will turn the tide for a lot of us, uh, when we think about him, but, we'll, we'll see. Um, but yeah, second day was, was, was, was, was great. Um, because when he used to, that's the ultimate conference.
When you say, okay, we're sending forward, we're putting you in, man, and saying, Hey, guard your yard. Like, trust us to get there, but if we don't get there, we need you to be on them. Like, why not Rice? And they were, and I said. What's in make big players. Marcus Jones stepped in, in a slot and made and made some decent plays.
I thought that play that Jones had on Herbert, I think, I forget what, what, what quarter it was, but you know, Herbert most times would score on a play like that, you know, um, you know Marcus Jones
was, that was the second right.
second? Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, mark Marcus Jones bridges him, you know, hits him underneath, like, kills the drive. And like people say, you know, that's not gonna show up under the box score, but that's huge.
The, the block that Henderson picks up on the Henry touchdown, huge, huge, huge. Um, the situational awareness is back because we've lost it for a few, even on a bill. We lost it for a few years.
Oh yeah.
Um, but the situational awareness is back and, um, they don't general generally make the same mistake twice. They're disciplined.
Play hard.
I mean, unless it's Drake Maye, should talk about that.
Yeah. Let's, let's, let's get into it. Let's do it.
Uh, I, you know, stats aside, uh, I think when you, when you, when you look at the box score, right? Drake, Maye 17 to 29, 2 68, a touchdown and reception, uh, and two fumbles. He lost one of them. Um, uh, but the positive, let's start with the positive. In the second half, he was 11 to 14 for 173 yards in a touchdown.
Mm-hmm.
the, that's, that's one of those things, those qualities that you can't teach, right? Like we, we saw, we've, we had all that 20 years of greatness. Yes. But we also saw what the flip side of it was with a guy like Mac Jones, who, if he didn't start fast and hot, he was not, he was not gonna have a good game. Drake does take a little while to get started, but like, you bet your ass that if you, if you give him the ball in the second half, he's, he's gonna go like he's gonna go out.
Yeah.
he threw in the second half, uh, for more yards than Justin Herbert threw the entire game,
Right.
and he looked really good doing. problem that I have with Drake, Maye,
Mm-hmm.
not, not him, but with his game, and I, I said this to the group, like, he knew that the defense was swarming around him. The pocket was collapsing. He pump faked and he saw that there were people around him. So instead of just going down and taking, taking the sack, he tried to fucking throw it and strip sack.
Like, it, it, I mean, and then he did it again, but we were lucky enough to re uh, to recover. So like,
Yeah. Hey, thank you Gerald Wilson. Thank you.
yeah, he, can't do that against a team where it's not like, again, where if, if it's gonna be a shootout, a k, a buffalo, if we, if we get to them, um, that can't happen there. So how do you fix that?
Um, reminding him that he doesn't have to be the Herro. I think that, that, that just comes with him still being young. Um, and because he is that damn good, he believes he can make every play because more times than not he does.
Yeah,
So because he has the ultimate confidence in himself, it shows out in in that way.
Um, I was okay with the interception. It got tipped like that happened. Guys are six five, like they're, they're your height out there. It, it is crazy. 6 5, 6 6. So like that's gonna happen every now and then. Um, like I said, but the fumbles have to be correct. And once again, we got on Andre, which I would love to talk about him in a minute too.
Um, we got him about the fumbles and you know, thankfully he's turned it around. But, um, you know, you can't be tiki barber out there. Like I, we,
Right.
we, we can't do that. Um, but with Drake, like I said, outside of that, that those fumbles, he generally doesn't make the same mistake twice. General.
He does make this, but he does make the same mistake twice regarding that talked about that. Like
Yes. Yeah.
Pittsburgh,
Mm-hmm.
that game this year, like he fumbled what, four or five times? Four times.
Yes, yes. Um, I do, I do think, and once again, I think obviously, you know, you're waiting, you are waiting to make a play. Um, I do think they can scheme a little bit better. Like, once again, it depends on who they're facing next week. It obviously, it, it, it'll either be Pittsburgh or um, or, or Houston, um,
Ghost stealers.
right.
Yeah, because like I said, I, it's only Hayward up front and I'm like, okay, cool. Um, like, and obviously TJ Wat, TJ Watt, but it's just like, you know what I'm saying? So, um. Defensively, they're not, they, this is not the steel curtain walking through the door. Um, I was funny. I was just talking to someone about that off the air.
I was like, this is not even, I said, this run right now reminds me of oh one. Um, because, you know, you think about they won the, they won the division, obviously, um, not granted. They, you know, um, at that time you could still get a, a buy being a two seed. But, um, they come in there, you know, when, when, uh, you know, you beat Oakland.
Now Oakland team was stacked. Right. You know, versus Gannon, uh, Jerry Wright, Tim Brown, Charlie Garner, um,
Bill Romanowski.
yeah. Bill Roman Romanowski, right. Um, Charles Woodson, you know what I'm saying? Um, so had had a team, you know, and they, they find a way to get it done. But, um, but, but back to Drake, I just like to say, I just, I, he, he definitely has to get things together, um, when it comes to ball security.
Um, 'cause when he does, because I say if, when he does, um, lookout.
Right, to your point, right, I, I do think it's, I don't think it's more so that he feels like he has to be the Herro. I do think he believes he can make it any play, like he can make any play that that's put in front of him. So what I would say to that is if the pocket's folded around you and like you can't tuck it and run, just drop because you have enough talent on the next down to overcome whatever adversity was just put in front of you.
Right, right, right.
like save it, save that. And that's the only, that's the little chin, uh, you know, uh, chink in his armor right now. And again, you turn the ball over at, at the 20 yard line, uh, like your own 20 yard line against a, competent playoff quarterback, which Herer is not. Um, your team's gonna make you like that.
Team's gonna make you pay, and you get, you got lucky out of this. Um, talking about, you know what, while we're talking about quarterbacks, um, and, and then we'll go to the running back team. Um, I just want you, everyone at home or in the car on the run, how, where are the fuck you're listening to this, uh, this podcast? Um, to know everything I've ever said about Justin Herbert is true. Everything, everything. He is a guy who can put up a fuck ton of stats. He always does. But in the playoffs, he folds, this man blew a 27 point. Now, not just him, but he was part of a team that blew a 27 point lead to Jacksonville. then went into Houston last year and threw four, not one, not two, not three, four interceptions, um, to get slaughtered. And it's always the same. The excuses that I was making at, at the, at the start of the show, everyone's, everyone's hurt. He feels like he has to do it by himself. I'm here to tell you, we've seen this story before. He is not the guy that will win you a championship. He isn't. Now, might he win a championship? Yeah. Trent Fer has won. So that's not the same thing. But he's not the guy that's gonna win. You won. And, I'm doing this in front of you because I want it to be out in the open that if you had a gun to my head, say, uh. Herbert or Lamar Jackson. I would pick Lamar Jackson. 11 times outta 10. Not even close. It's not close. I would pick Dak Prescott over, uh, over Justin Herbert, the white or you know, the black Kurt Cousins. So Herbert Herbert is, is what, what, what Peyton was before he won. He he is what? Philip Rivers minus the playoff victories. Uh, because Philip at least he could get you the, a FFC talent game. but yeah, I'm,
Well,
on Herbert. I'm
I mean, if that's, yeah,
about him.
if, if that's the case though, do you move off him? I know they just gave him a deal, but do you move on from him?
No, no, I think you, you accept the fact that he's a guy that's gonna, that's gonna play himself, uh, play you and your team into a spot to make the playoffs. And then once you get into the playoffs, you better have a great defense. Or like, or a great running back because maybe the LA Chargers are the, are, are, are the anomaly where I say a running back will never win you Super Bowl,
Yeah.
Saquon just did.
Right. Correct. Yeah. Um, obviously the situations matter, you know, obviously coaching matter, but situations matter too. Um, like I think about what Seattle's doing right now, you know, with Sam, Donna, but obviously their defense is elite. If you put Herin on there. Do they also give 14 wins? Could I, could I believe so.
I think they do. Um,
I think they get 14 regular season
yeah. Um.
Then what happens in the playoffs?
Well, right. We, we, we've seen him fall short. We've seen, obviously we seen him down fall short. We've seen Lamar and others fall short. Um, but at the same time, it's like even, um, I don't know. It's just like I, even though Lamar hasn't always made the plays, I feel like Lamar is someone that, like you said, you trust to make at least a couple of plays that could put you in position to say, all right, go win the game.
But he can't control someone not catching a two point conversion or a fumble at the goal line. Like, that's different. Right. Um, with Herbert, he would, the throws he was making, or not making, I should say, it was like, where was you throwing it to? Was your receivers at Red Robin? Was they at the, was they at the lighthouse?
You know, like, like where, where were they? Because you were just throwing it all, all over the place. But, um, he was uncomfortable all night. And it's obvious that it's in his head because there, there's, you can't tell me he wasn't thinking man. I got a rookie, I mean, I got a second year guy here. He's good, but it's like we, we should come in here and beat them.
Um, you know, but not having the Maria Hampton really, he basically was, you know, um, LT from 2007. Uh, for those that remember he said on the sideline for most of that game, uh, after crying about how classless we were the year before, but then didn't come out and play. I'll never forget that. Um, uh, but yeah, Arian Hampton was on the sideline and I, once again, that's something I want to hear because he played with Drake, so I thought that he would be, um, what Trayvon Henderson's become.
But you know, I'm thankful for Anderson too, obviously. Um, but yeah, it, it, it, it, it sucks. It sucks that, um, yeah, like I said, as you, as, as currently constructed, you, you are, you are a hundred percent right, um, that he is not the individual that, um, you know, that, that he's supposed to be.
And also like his top two targets for wide receivers are clearly, clearly such indoor, wide receivers. Right. I mean, and we found that out big. I mean, Dave had blown it the hard way 'cause his team paid Keenan Allen, uh, last year and I mean, he was, he was nothing like he, he is, he, he's, he always has been herbert's bin. sure. Like he's really good in domes. He's really good in warm weather. But cold weather, man, he just, and obviously he's later in his career, but it was just so obvious. So I felt like if I was here to tell you that I was right about Justin Herbert, that it's only fair that I say that I was wrong about re Stevenson.
Mm-hmm.
Um, um, uh, because listen, the, the four or five fumbles, what was it? Was it six fumbles in the last two seasons? Uh, it it like by, by like week three of this year where I was like, listen, don't know why they're not playing Trivion. I don't understand it. And then when Ramon was out and Trivion went off, I was like, this is awesome.
Like, I never want Ram Andre to see the field again, but boy am I glad that he did, because last night he accounted for, 128 total yards, uh, 53 on the ground, 75 through the air. he's really just emerged at someone that. That you can trust. Now, I'm not gonna lie to you and tell you that every time that, that I see a defender rushing towards him.
I don't still wince and say, hold onto the ball. Uh, it's still there. But yeah, I was wrong about him and I think he, if he didn't just play him his, his way into a longer contract with the Patriots, he definitely is playing his way into a higher paid contract elsewhere.
So him, him turning into La Garrett Blunt 2.0 was not on the bingo card because that, that's what's happening. Um.
Yep. It's a good call.
I didn't, I didn't. That's, if that's the case, they may be hoisting the trophy up to February because what he's been able to do as a receiver, forget about him running on a, running, running the football, what he's been able to do as a receiver, um, running the Madden play called the halfback angle, running the angle, routes, running, running a a a a stop and go like he did in week 18 against I against Miami.
Like, are you kidding me? Running it better than receivers. And was, and like, so obviously, you know, we were, um, you know, I was probably one of the biggest supporters of him when he came out here on the team. You know, it, it was me and Joe initially. Um, but obviously we'd all had fell off the bandwagon, but I still was like, you need him.
Need him. He was, oh, you know, let it go, Ray. I'm like, no, like you, you need this guy. Um, I said, I, I don't know how it's gonna happen, but I said, you need him and he's gonna show it at somewhere, but you need him. And now, now we're, and you know how I feel up about the brand game anyway, so I'm, I'm, I'm, it's harder for me to give up on that than it is for the passing.
Um, I was just like a guy that big, that strong and you play outside. You need him to offset what Henderson can do, and now you have the two-headed monster again. And, um, he, he was awesome yesterday. And I, I don't see any signs of that slowing down really. I'm with you though. Um, definitely his heart attack season when, you know, he's, um, still rushing to the ground.
Um, but the fact that, like I said, for him to turn into blunt 2.0 in a five week span, um. And maybe 'cause he is fully healthy. Remember, you know, he had an ankle injury, maybe he's fully healthy now that changes things. Um, once again, three years ago the man had a thousand yards. So it's not like, um, he's incapable of, of, of carrying the load in that regard.
Um, but we just had to see it in the ball. Security. He has to be the number one thing and, um, that seamless to be occurred for the time being. So, um, I love what I see and I, I hope that it continues
Yeah, we know, listen, uh, uh, under a previous regime, he would, he would've never seen the field again after, uh, after the fumbles, right? And I would've been proven right at the beginning. But all, all of that to say, uh, to have a coach that, that still believes in you when things aren't going well and, you know, you're, you're hurt and your backup comes in and just the world on fire, and
right.
you come back and you're still splitting time with him just like you were before you left. Um, and that boat of confidence from, uh, from from Vrabel has absolutely settled for Andre Stevenson for sure. Um, and now he is a dual threat and. Talking about, I mean, he's definitely teaching how to block because that block, that Trayvon, uh, put up to seal the game on that touchdown throw to Hunter Henry was absolutely like, that was surgical. And
Yeah.
when you saw the guy spin around, you're like, I, I, I looked, I'm like, was that Armand? he showed that it was Henderson. I'm like, damn, he's been putting in the work.
yeah. And, and right. And that, and that's, that's, that's where, um, yeah. 'cause like I said, obviously Stevenson picks up blocks really well too, um, you know, in the past, in, in the past game. So, yeah, like that. I think that's just been a thing up here, you know, whether. From the Anton Smiths to Kevin Fas, um, Jr.
Redman, um, the Lawrence Maroney's, Danny Woodhead, you know, um,
You forgot about the law firm.
yeah. The law for, yeah. Right, right, right. That's right. I forgot why. That's right. Um, but it's just, it's just been a thing. So, um, hopefully they could have another year or two together, um, because once again, Henderson, uh, Stevens is only 27 now, like he's 34, 34.
Um, so yeah, I, I think that that's, uh, that, that was special. But to that, to that, to the, to go off the thing from Henderson. Right. Um, remember the play before may have missed hooper on a similar play. Right? And this is what I'm talking about, about the bounce back ability. Mrs. Hooper wide open, you know, wide open, misses him the next play, not, not three or four plays later.
The next play, they send the house, they gets picked up properly. Throws a dime. Not a waffler, not a, you know, you know, he throws a dime to Hunter Henry. Um, um, who, that's, that's another person. I'm not sure if we thought he was gonna be what he became here either. But Hunter Henry's been awesome since he's been here.
Um, once again, hasn't been a world beater, but has been consistent and, um, like, just, just ha just happy to, to see that hey, he was the one that sealed the deal against his former team, so that was awesome.
Love that. And uh, again, I, I was wrong about Hunter Henry all those years ago. Like when that free agent day was that 20 20, 21,
Yeah.
was like, no, he's made a glass. He always gets hurt. Turns out. Out of the two that they, uh, they, they signed to big deals that, uh, that day he's been like, he's been our, our best offensive weapon throughout this transitional, uh, reboot.
But to be, to be fair, you, you never. You never called him a scrub, you just said you're cautious, healthy, so,
gets hurt.
right. But I'm saying, but, but like, I could see if he was like, man, see that sucks. And he is like, no. Like, he just, um, so which is that, that's a, that's a valid reason to think that something's not gonna pan out.
Someone's not gonna pan out. Um, but him and Bourne at the time were initial hits. Um, you know, once again, I liked Bourne because I want, I I just felt like when you had that type of attitude, um, let, like he wanted to be here and, you know, he wanted to be still a part of something even when they weren't great.
Um, 'cause ironically, I thought he would've did numbers here with Drake, the way Drake was playing. I think he'd have been great here, but, um, I can't,
But if that was,
I can't argue with,
on that, now,
yeah.
looking back on that now, like if, if that suppressed ke Shawne, booty's emergence again,
Right, right, right. Yeah, that's true. That's true, that's true. I was thinking, but see, I don't, I don't, I don't see haha booty as a slot. Um, to me I was like, it's, it is. Kyle Williams is basically, essentially replace born. Um, I was just thinking just to keep the veteran talent for another year, and then if you want to dismiss him, then so be it.
But, um, just to give a Drake another veteran option. But like I said, VIX has been great. Um, the whole receiving court in general has been, been really good. Um,
Which is so wild to say.
yeah, it is because it just shows what, what a difference a couple years can make. But, um, just the early, early hot take next week, I think next week will be the Pop Douglas game.
All right, so go into next week. Obviously right now we are recording this before the start, uh, of the Pittsburgh Houston game. So on Monday, January 12th. Um, who do you, I mean, again, I don't want to fall into the chat that the LA charges fell into. Right? And, and, and Saley. I'm gonna look past, you know, whoever, uh. Who would you rather play? It has to be Pittsburgh, right?
Um, well, to me it don't matter for next week. The a champion for next week, it doesn't matter. Um, I think they're better than both teams personally.
oh. So you are looking past next week's opponent
No, I I'm saying I think they're better than, I'm saying they're better than both of these teams. So you say, who do I rather face? 'em, like, it doesn't matter because to me, they're better than both.
Um, but from a, from a watchability standpoint, if that's even a word. Um, I want Pittsburgh. I don't, every time we have face Houston in the playoffs, I get bored every time. Every time because it, it is been, it's been belt to as every time. Shout to Michael Harbor every time, every time it's melt ass.
Well, that was, that was the Billy O'Brien. Uh,
Didn't matter. They three times they played 'em three times in the playoffs. Right? Three times.
do we ever play them with Deshaun as a quarter?
That's the last time, I think, if I'm not mistaken. I think, I think 2018. 2019. No, 2017. 2017. I think they faced them one, one last time. Yeah. Because we had cooks, so Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Um, that was the last time. And that's the Dion Lewis went crazy that game. Yeah. So I, I get bored because the game's over at halftime usually.
Um,
Yeah, but they didn't, I mean, they
but they're not gonna say CJ Charles
like this.
de Watson at that time. At that time, once again, what he is now, whatever. But CJ Charles better what Deshaun Watson was at that time. Um,
Sure. But Ryan has that defense playing. I mean, this
oh, they're.
iteration of the Texans defense that we, that we've ever seen. They don't have, they don't have the star power, like they don't have the Vince
I'm like, it it, I mean, I guess combined, they're better than JJ Wat combined, but I'm like, man, JJ Watt was, was was something. Um,
I mean, that year that they had watt clowny and Wilfork Yeah, that, I mean, their,
yeah.
was unbelievable, but they didn't have a secondary.
Right. Yeah. I mean, Stanley's an all pro. Um, I mean, south Nick cast, he's, he's done a phenomenal job rebuilding that team down there. Um, but like I said, I, I just, I don't know, I even, yes, the defensively, they are everything that coach was as a player. They play hard. They, they, um, they're disciplined on defense.
Um, and quite frankly, I'm not trying to relive the ice cube meme from boys in the hood saying, y'all haven't seen a dead body. I don't wanna see Drake on the, on the ground. Unless he's scoring a Russian touchdown. I don't, I don't, I don't wanna see, oh, ever seen a dead body? I don't, I don't want that. So I'd rather see, because Danielle Hunter is a problem, or innocent is a problem.
Um, and I, and I acknowledge that. I'm not saying, I'm not gonna say say otherwise. Um, but do I think that a healthy Gonzalez with Hawkins Woodson and, and Davis could shut down Nico and Dalton Schultz and, um, I forget who else, who else? The other, the other, the number two receiver. I forget. But, um, like I just, I just, oh, the, um, the boys from Iowa State, Higgins, and, um, oh my gosh.
And Noel, who
Higgins has been, uh, pretty good this year.
he's,
had a,
yeah, yeah.
pretty good year.
He, he's someone, I, he's someone I was thinking of because he was, he was right there. They all went in a row. They went right in a row. And granted, they, he didn't, he, well, actually, he, he was there at 38 and I was just like, he's just, there you go. Get Higgins from Iowa State. Go get him.
Now, granted, they must have, obviously they had Kyle Williams on the radar, so that's why they must have passed. But I'm just like, Higgins is there at 38, what are we doing? And then they was like, oh, they're getting a running back. I was like, okay. But then seeing who the running back was, I was like, okay, fine.
But I'm just like, HIIN was there and you need to, you need a threat with your, with your guys. 'cause this is before we knew that Dick Dicks was gonna be, um, you know, what he became this year, but we should have known in the off season. 'cause the way he was cutting and movement early on, it was like, if he stays healthy, he's gonna be okay at, at, at the, at the, at the least.
Um, but
The way he was cutting that pink powder and moving it all around. It was just like you just knew. You just knew. You know what I mean? You just knew.
yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, so I'm, I'm just like, it, it, it, it is, it is what it is, but. Um, I don't know. I, from a, from a rivalry standpoint, from a, like, getting the chance to send
Aaron Rogers home. I know,
me, so I'm sorry. I, I, I don't, I don't care. I, I don't, yeah. I'm just gonna say I don't care for who's to matchup. Once again, it'd be cool.
Cool, whatever, because that means we're playing whoever, but give me the chance to send Omar Epps and Aaron Rogers home for good.
wild that because I, I, I just couldn't say that, you know, it's just wild that you can say that shit. wild. That's wild. Um, it, it's true though. Uh, it's true. Like, I can't say it. I'm not saying what you
Damn. True. Right,
No, no, no, no, no, no. I'm not saying that. No. Listen, I think matchup wise, Houston poses a bigger threat specifically because in that instance, I feel like we are. Our offensive line is a lot like the charges offensive line against, against that defensive front.
right.
so like, I don't want that,
Yeah.
now, and I don't like, again, if we keep winning, I don't, I don't, I don't care about beating tomato cans. And I, I think, I think the Steelers brand of offense is so fucking one dimensional
Mm.
it's like, okay, like Gonzo on DK with a little help if you need to put him over the top and, and then you're done. done. You, you are not gonna get beat by Adam Thelan.
So I, you know what? It's funny. I'd actually put, um, I actually put, I would put Carl Davis on him.
Or you want me to get lit up?
No, I'm saying I would do that with the over the top help. And then you just have Gonzo Rome wherever, like whether it's Calvin Austin, whether it's, you know, um, feeling, um,
Yeah. But it feels like.
that
he's healthy. Right. Gonzo, like he gets off
he's that guy.
down the
Yeah, he's that guy.
Now,
Hey, hey. Thank, thank you, bill, in that regard. Thank you, bill. Thank you. Thank you.
did burn him two years ago, and that game Oh, was, was that uh, Gino Smith,
I mean,
65 yard touchdown?
I mean, a dude is 6, 6, 3, 6 5.
Mm-hmm.
Like, dude, I mean, dude, dude, dude is, dude. Should be Monday a TO. He should be, he should be not, but he should be, um, because he is built like that. Um, but, you know, TTOT was just a different, uh, different guy. Let's say TITI was different too, but know, but TTO was a different guy.
Um, but yeah, but that's what I'm saying. I feel like Carl Davis is a little bit bigger. Um, is he bigger than guns? I don't know. He's bigger than Gonzo, but, um, I, I'd put, I'd put David, because remember that, that's what Bill would do too. Bill would put the number two guy on, on, on, on the, on the number one.
With, with over the help. Like, I, I would, I, that's what I would do. And then just have the, have the number one roam, because I, I think guns was that good that wherever you put him, slot. Right corner, left corner, don't matter. Like it's, it's, it's, it's, it is curtains. Um, and this is not Minnesota feeling, um, Calvin Austin does not a proven commodity, even though I trust that, you know, Pittsburgh knows how to develop by receivers.
So I think he could be good in a few seasons. Um, I like Kenneth Gain, well, I do, um, out of Memphis. Um, he is someone I, I, I wanted here a few years back. I don't know if he's a free agent or not, but I feel like if they don't go back to Gibson, um, I feel like he'd be a really good replacement for Antonio Gibson next year, in my opinion.
If he, if he, if he's a free agent, um, because he, he won't cost much. Uh, but yeah, no, but just, just from a rivalry, from a, um, every, every game that we've had with Pittsburgh outside of the 2016 a C championship game has, has been a joke. I mean, I mean, uh, has been, has been close, I should say, because 20 16, 16 was a joke, but everything else has been, has been close.
So
Yep.
I rather.
so let's fast forward to January 18th. It's Patriots taking on the Steelers. They come into, uh, Foxborough. What's the final score of that game?
So if the Steelers come, I'll say 27 20. Um,
I was gonna, I was gonna say 27 13.
oh, okay. I, I just think that if there's anyone that, like I said, and we've seen at times, um, you know, can just get up one more time and still deliver a performance, even if it's losing, um, Ms. Aaron Rogers. So that's why I said I, I, I give him out of respect, I give him 20 points.
Um, but I, I would not sit here and cry about them scoring in less than 20. That'd be great. Um, but if Houston wins, um, I'll say 24 17.
Yeah, I was, and I was gonna say, if it's Houston, it's gonna be like 2320.
Yeah.
Like, it's gonna be, be close. Uh, all right. Well, we are, we're an hour in and we, and we gotta cover the rest of the NFL here. Uh, so wild card round, uh, Bill's, Jaguars, uh, Allen was able to do something he, that he is never been able to do in, in the history of his career so far.
And orchestrate a fourth quarter, uh, comeback win, uh, against
Oh, cool. Yeah.
Against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Listen, I think he was, he was kind of what he needed to be this game, right? 28 or 35, 2 73 a touchdown. And then two scores on the ground with 33 rushing guards like he was their offense.
Mm-hmm.
And fourth quarter game on the line. Uh, three, you know, they're down by three points. Last drive of the game and Trevor Lawrence throws a pick. He is what I say he is too.
Yeah, that they, um,
I felt like Jacksonville didn't miss Trevin Hunter until yesterday.
I agree with that. I was actually gonna say Parker Washington's the
He, he was awesome. He was great. He was awesome. He was awesome
emerge the emergence of him and like, let's say Trevin hunter's in there and Brian and Brian Thomas isn't playing like he forgot how to catch a football. That that's a pretty formidable offense.
for, yeah. Correct. And then obviously at TN has has been really good too, at times. Um, I do think given, given your, given your stance on Trevor Lawrence, like clearly you're not alone in that, in that thinking, right. So let, let me not make it seem like you're on an island with that. But, um, given, given that he has moments of, um, where he forgets to play quarterback, right.
Or how to play, I should say, excuse me. It was running really well with at TN and and two in, it was really Well, you would think, okay, Lord, change of paper.
running it.
Yeah, keep 17 off the field for a little bit. Let him enjoy the breeze of Jacksonville, Florida. You know, shout out to Atlantic Ave. Let, let him, let him enjoy that.
Um, but you don't, and Liam Cohen thought that, you know, he was back at Clemson once again, this Clemson, Trevor Lawrence, they might win by 10 because that,
Oh
that guy was special. Um, you know, um, but I guess, you know, it's, it's, it's easy to get ruined by Urban Maya and some others. But yeah, this is what, this is what EC clips and Trevor Lawrence, um, so yeah, he, he showed his colors in the NFL thus far and um
It's, but it's such a good point by you, dude, it's such a good point By you, you have 14 rushes from 118 yards between your two running backs, and you decide, you know what
Yeah, it's crazy.
I, part of that is psychological and, and that is the aura around, uh, Josh Allen. Like, you feel like every time you have the ball, you have to score because you think that you, that, that he's just gonna try and outpace you.
Yeah, but that's true though.
need to get over that
No. Sure. But that there, there's nothing wrong with that thinking even in the playoffs, getting three is better than getting zero.
I know
So even, even so, even if you're running it and they still stop you with like, you know, third and three at 15, they stop you and it's fourth to one after 12 and you don't want to go for you, kick the field go, cool, no problem.
Because you, their kicker was making it from 85 yards. Like, it's, it's not a problem, it's fine. Um, but they just, they just chose to give it up. But what I will say, 'cause I, I was, I was, I was waiting to get to this game. I absolutely love how that reporter spoke to Liam Cohen after the game. Loved it.
Absolutely loved it. I thought that was, um,
it's classy.
that it was, it was just beautiful. It was awesome to hear. Um, her speak to him like that because clearly, obviously, you know, he, he, he's had a great first season, like she said. Um, but you know, she stripped away the football stuff. It was like bespoke to the man.
And I, I, like I said, just, just, I thought that that was great because once again, in the world that we clown and we troll and we say someone sucks when they really don't and we are armchair quarterbacks. Like, I thought that was beautiful that she spoke to him, to the man and not just the coach. And I, I just thought that was great.
So I, I wanted to put that out there. Um, but needless to say, um, learn from your mistakes, coach Cohen. Put the ball in your running back's hands, have a balance. 'cause Trevor Lawrence once again had good moments throughout the season and yesterday, but knowing the balance of like, okay, my quarterback may not have it on this drive, or these drives consecutively.
Let me, let me mix up the play calling and then give it back to him. Um. You know, if, if need be, but you know,
Right.
um, he'll, he'll learn.
I'm with you there. All right, so now the six seed bills travel to mile high to play the f uh, the first seed Broncos next week. what do you think happens in that game?
I think that though, which is in for a rude awakening.
Me too.
Um, I think that he's, he's once again, um, they remind me of the mid two thousands, I mean, mid 2010 Saints, right? And ironically, who was their coach, right? But, um, they're gonna slice you up. They're gonna score on you, and they're gonna do enough on. Now granted, now this defense is better than the defense that they had in New Orleans.
Let, let me, let me be clear. Um, C alone is just different. Um, way better than Jabari Greer, better than Darren Sharper Auden boys that came through there, right? Way better. Um. But this defense has not faced Josh Allen, like in the playoffs. And regardless of what, you know, yes, we know he hasn't got it done yet.
Um, they just got the monkey off the back, you know, in the awards of Steve Young by beating, you know, by winning on the road for the first time, CIS 93 when they win to Sy Bowl. Um, and there's a great hip hop song that says, you know, this is how we do it from 93 till, so from 93 till now, they're like, Hey, we, we, we, we, we figured we we're starting to figure it out.
Um, I think Josh Allen likes them up next week, I mean, in a major way. So I think they come out swinging and before they know it, they might be down 21. I, I, I just really do, I understand
As,
it's been a problem. I really do, but I just think sometimes, you know, things just align for you. And I, I think that, um. I remember when, um, this is a little different 'cause the team is not as good, but, or no, well, no, they're, they're about the same.
I remember when Andrew Luck and them came into to Denver, um, this is what that feels like. And Andrew Luck did whatever he wanted against that Denver team. I feel like this is, was
yep.
about to happen 'cause Josh Allen assembled in Andrew Luck in that regard. Um, so yeah, look, look out
So what I'll say is, uh, because I, I do, I do feel like Buffalo's gonna win this game. I do think that it could be something along the lines of they're down 17 points in the second quarter, and then Josh Allen just scores on five consecutive drives and
crazy.
up like you look and it's 35 17. uh, but as a Patriot fan, right? What do you, what would you rather have happen? Would you rather have happen? Josh Allen has now won tuner in the playoffs. He, he had a fourth quarter comeback. Uh, assuming that we win our game against, uh, Pittsburgh or Houston, would you rather Josh Allen come into uh, Foxborough or would you rather go to Mile High and play against Bow next?
Um,
Again, assuming we win. Not saying that
right. No. Right.
but
Exactly. No. Funny it is, right? Because ironically, if Brady was our quarterback, I'd have said, I want Buffalo to come into here because Denver had been a house of horrors. We don't know that for. So he could come into Denver. I light them up. Um, they're undefeated on the road, and you know how I feel about teams that can get it done on the road.
Um, so that'd be intriguing. But I'd rather break Josh Allen's heart and not him, not get to the Super Bowl, the competitor than me, rather break his heart. Um, I don't care about Bo Nicks. I Bo Bo don't know nothing. He don't know nothing. Shout to shout to Nike. Shout to Bo Jackson. Bo knows nothing. Um.
Yeah, you better leave that.
Right. E. E exactly. Um, I just, yeah. I, I'd rather, I'd rather break Georgetown's heart in
All right, so as it happens right now in the a FC, you have Buffalo coming into New England for the a FC title game, and we'll talk a little bit more about that. Hopefully that, you know, those, hopefully the patriot just keep winning, right? That's, that, that's the
Yeah. No matter who your point.
right. Just keep winning. Just keep winning.
Uh, NFC, what. I think there was one boring game, I would say. Um, well, out of the big games there was one boring game and it was the Eagles 49 ERs. If you had to rank all the three of them, uh, because I thought Rams Panthers was surprisingly, uh, like
I saw that coming. Saw that coming because it, it was
mean,
easy to overlook Carolina. It was gonna be easy.
a close game.
Yeah. But 34, 31 like Bryce, Bryce balled up
Right. But just like how we talked about Parker Washington, um, a few moments ago. Yo, well, actually both Jalen Coker, shout out to Holy Cross. Um, wow. He, Jalen Coker was phenomenal. On, on Saturday. Um, Ted McMillan,
1 34.
right? Tim Ted McMillan. Who? Matt Faye. I, I'm, I would've been three for three. Remember? I talked about, I said Drake, I said, Drake, Maye, we're gonna get him.
I said, I said, will Campbell and I, and remember early on, I was like, he had like a 300 yard game, like early on. I was like, last year I was like, uh, if he's there, you take him, because he, he,
know, I
he's Mike, captain 2.0 and oh, we, I'm like, okay. But, uh, he, he's, yeah, like he's, he, he's, he's good. He's gonna be good.
And he looks like Mike Evans 2.0. And I'm like, I was like, that's, that's tough. That's tough. But yeah, they little, they grew up a little bit on, on Saturday. Um, I. That's why I like to see young teams make the playoffs. I like to see who's gonna show that they are, are, you know, are made for that moment. Um, Bryce shouldn't have been scared at the moment because it's like, dude playing in Carolina is not more crazy to play in Alabama.
It's just not. It's just gimme, the pros are not, um, when you got people out with the shotgun outside saying, Hey, you better win this game, boy. Like, it's, it is a little different. Uh, so period's like, like, you know, have a roll tie, like it is a little, little different. Little, little, little scarier. Um, so, oh my God, you know.
Oh, straight that from the tape. No, but, um, seriously,
I, I also can't say that, but go ahead. C, continue.
no, no derogatory words were used in, in that, in that description. It's okay. It's all right. And once again, it, it, it, it, it is you and me on here. Like, you know, anybody. You was watching somebody else,
it's not just
we was watching somebody else.
just you and me listening to this though. You
Oh, sure. No, for sure. But
broader audience.
if, so, if someone, if we were watching someone else and they were saying that, and I, I didn't be like not knowing their dynamic and they'd be like, uh, but people that listen to us, that one, that know us, this is not, this is not out of the order.
This, this is, this is what, this is what we do. So it, it is okay. That that'd be fine. Um, but yeah, no, Carolina was awesome. Um, you know, once again, people were, you know, they couldn't get, you know, match staff this meet out there miles after that drive. But he was really good. He was really good when it mattered.
And, um,
Of course, I mean, he, he did have an
I in advance,
performance, uh, 24 42, 3 0 4, 3 touchdowns that picked, but that touchdown he threw to Parkinson where he put it, where only that guy could catch it. that's,
um, yeah,
boy throw.
I mean, no, but he, he's, listen, he's the guy. He's who I wanted to replace Brady. So I, I love Method Stafford, and I, I hate the fact that I have been pinned against him. Um. You know, just, just to support Drake Maye, because I, I, but Matches tap is awesome. He, he is by far my non favorite Patriot, like by far.
Um, like I just, it, it, it, it sucks, but it's just like, dude, like you're thrown to Devonte, Adams, and p and Nku. If he was doing this with, you know, his former teammates, like, we did this with like TAUs Young, like a Brandon Petti group. Okay. Alright. Alright. I'd like, you know what, I give it to you big dog for the success of eight picks.
Okay. Alright. But Pookah and Devonte, and you got Kyra Williams and Blake Corn. And Come on. Come on, come on. And Higby. Come on. Come on.
Well. They overcame, uh, weird odds that, I mean, that, that I, that I never saw that was gonna happen with Carolina, uh, to go on and face the next thing that we're gonna talk about. And dk sizzles, uh, uh, Chicago Bears. Now, for all those that are listening out there, if you have not listened to the Emergency Reaction show that, uh, Mr.
And Mrs. Sizzle did after that game, I recommend it because it was awesome. Uh, show, but an awesome game. 21 to three and DK was pulling the whole, this, they're out of it, this game, this game's over. They need to, uh, you know, clean house and rebuild the defense next year. And you and I, who I would argue are probably the most pessimistic individuals in that chat,
Mm-hmm.
we're both saying like, this isn't you, dude.
Don't give up on them.
Right. Right.
And Caleb Williams decided to say, fuck you.
Mm-hmm.
This, like this is now my division you're not gonna come into Soldier Field and beat me and went on to have a massive second half, a 24, 48, 360 1. Two touchdowns. Two interceptions. But I mean that, I mean that throw at the end,
Yeah.
the Jordan pose, I mean, unbelievable.
So what were your thoughts watching that game?
Um, special team, special season. And I, I've been saying that last few weeks. Um, I told him that a few weeks ago on the show, um, where he was like, oh, you know, you guys are pumping us up. You are. But I'm like, as does anybody that knows what a special team looks like, it's us. Um, and it, it just feels like that right now.
Now the biggest thing, you know, he can't keep getting by me and Kayla Williams with someone from 50% like that. That's gotta, you gotta at least get to 60, right? Um.
Yeah.
But you know, if you're still making a spectacular plays, you know, when it matters, then, you know, so, so be it. Um, but yeah, it's like, wow. But no, um, that was insane.
I, I fell asleep towards the end. 'cause I was like, all right, you know, you know, it was the next little valiant effort, you know, 27, 20 16. Right. You know, it was cute, um, when I woke up to like, go to the bathroom and get water, like, like 5:00 AM and I'm seeing like, they literally have a range of emotion from like, all right, you know, oh my god, Caleb Williams is God.
And I'm like, what you talking? I'm like, whatcha talking about? And I'm like, oh my God. They came
I did
one. I said, oh my god. I said, that is unbelievable. So, um, crazy, crazy.
I'm gonna, I'm gonna put it out there, uh, so that Dave can, uh, crucify me for this. But, uh, green Bay didn't lose that game because of Jordan Love. Jordan Love was 24 46 for 330 yards and four touchdowns. No pick.
Mm-hmm.
I, I, he did not lose that game for them.
But
However, he didn't win it for 'em like Kayla did.
yeah, I mean, I, Matt, Matt Lele should be gone. Should be. Um, and the fact that they're looking to work out a deal for him is, is, is, is comedy to me, um, that that can't happen, bro. That can't happen, can't be up that big.
I mean, with, with Harbaugh out there, with, uh, with even, you know, McDaniels with, with an actual good quarterback and good offense, I think he could be a really good head coach. Uh, like, what are you doing? Like, why would you keep, why would you keep this guy?
So speaking of mcd Daniel, I, I think he, um, even though I, I'm not the biggest fan, I think he would do good in Baltimore.
Yeah.
When you put in with Lamar, give him a type of running because once again, he clearly likes to run the ball. You see what Devin not chain did. Like I, you give him something like that. Like it might be, it might be a little different, but, um, well, I say differently like that, make the playoffs, but, you know, I don't think they win it, but they make the playoffs, um, which that saves jobs nowadays.
Just make major, the playoffs, get there, you know, you know, make us look good, get more playoff revenue and money. Um, but yeah, I, I don't know. Um,
Well, what's your take on Jordan Love in this game? Because obviously he didn't win
I mean, I, I mean I, I was, I was the, I was being, I was being in the drum banging the drum for drum love early on. Um.
Oh, me too. I've had to redact that too.
Yeah. Which I did too. But I mean, like you said, he had a game similar to what he did against Dallas a couple years ago where he looked them up on the road and almost put 50 on them in, in, in their building. Um, I, I thought we were gonna see more of the same yesterday. I thought. I was like, okay. Um, but from the play calling wasn't there in the second half.
Um, and what happens is sometimes you play, instead of playing the winning, you play not to lose and they play not to lose in that fourth quarter. And Ben Johnson, the company said, okay, well we're gonna keep us in it. We're gonna take advantage of it and good, better, best took over. And yeah, they, they dominated, um.
So if you're, if you're Brandon McManus, you don't show your face around here, any ever again. You miss two, you miss two kicks, and, and then you miss an extra point. What's that? Seven points?
Yep. So BA based in, um, makes Cosby mixed those,
Oh yeah, a
so, um,
hundred percent.
you know, Mr. Coby mixed those. Um, and it is, it is wild because McMahon is, you know, I think won the Silver Bowl with Denver, you know, early on or years ago I should say. Um, I don't know if he was on the team that lost to Seattle or the team that beat Carolina, but I know he was on that.
He was on one of those teams
Yep.
um, it's just like you've been there, so it's not like, you know what I'm saying? It's not like you scared in the moment. Um, Justin show,
now you, now, now you got the potential, uh, MVP of the league and the Los Angeles Rams coming into Soldier Field. Uh, do you think?
uh, it's funny because I think when they, no. Not, not, not this time around, but if I'm not mistaken, this is a matchup with the 1985 NC championship game, or even division around, if I'm not mistaken, um, in Chicago. Beat them then, um, to go onto the Super Bowl and obviously beat us. Um, I'm, I'm riding with Chicago,
Same.
I think.
I think they find a way to get it. Um,
their defense can't play a way that they played in the first half against the Rams.
but
or, or, or, you know, like they, they have to act like they can't put up 25 points or, you know, 20 yeah, 26 points in the, in the second half. But listen, to offense, the bears could be with anybody,
yes.
they can do it. Um, it's just a matter of can that defense tighten up sooner? And if it does, yeah. I mean the, the bears are three and a half point underdogs at home. Gimme that all day.
Right, right. Exactly. Yep.
Also I'm, I'm rooting for a Patriot bear of Super Bowl. Like I want that there, you know,
Same thing.
40 years later
So that, so yes, that's the sentimental thing, but just from a, you know, a parallel universe or whatever word you want to use for us to beat the Rams and for us to get for Drake, Mesa Bowl, first of all, to come against the Rams. I mean, like, I, I, you can't, you, you can't beat that. Um,
to beat the Rams three times in the Super Bowl in 25 years would be
amazing
ridiculous.
because, oh, I mean, obviously they get another one, but it's like for his, for him to start against LA Oh, against St. Louis and way like, it would, so it, to me that would be, that would be a little more storybook. But, um, I'm here for either matchup Opport league, because that means in New England and Louis Bowl.
Um, but there would be, there would be no other matchup I would want to see against something outside of New, uh, Chicago or la.
Yep. No, I'm, I'm, I'm with you. So I'm rooting for Chicago and then I, I would say in the most boring game of the NFC games, which again, if, if you don't think it was boring, I, I, whatever, uh, I just felt like Eagles, 49 ERs, um, that offense. I, I was trying to will them to just like actually run the ball against, uh, four, nine ERs defense that was, that had lost all of its horses just give Saquon the, the chance to go north, south. Right. Stop with these little fucking options. because if, if you need to, I mean, he can be that guy still. And they just decided, nope, we're gonna do the little option play and then we're gonna do, uh, eight yard to the right, sideline eight yard to the left sideline. I don't know what happened to Jalen Hart this year. I'm not as down on him as you are, but what I will say is he, for whatever reason, he decided that he was not gonna throw down the middle of the field this year. didn't,
Yeah.
it. I mean, Hollywood, you, you got, uh, AJ Brown dropping balls. You got Saquon dropping balls. The offensive line couldn't, couldn't block.
And then, you know, kettle goes down. But CMC runs. CMC is still like, when he is healthy, he is a fucking force.
So does, does he, does he change your mindset on running backs because he, he is the offense. I, I, I don't, I don't care what else is on there. That man is the offense period. When you
But
a hundred, a hundred catches a thousand yards rushing, that man is the offense. Unbelievable. It's unbelievable how good he is.
Unbelievable. Really, from day one. It ain't like, oh, you know, he kind of grew into it, like from day one, that man has been on a mission and the fact that he has more catches than some Hall of Fame receivers is crazy. Crazy.
Yeah. I, I, listen, I, I think are exceptions to the rule.
Yep.
Christian McCaffrey has not won a Super Bowl yet, and I would just, and
Individual talent, just as an individual talent.
said this, you changed my amount of running backs. And I said that the, if you're not gonna win a Super Bowl, your best, uh, player being a running back, um, so maybe he'll change my mind.
I mean, Saquon did last year.
Yeah. I mean, I, I, I don't think, I don't think San Francisco wins wins it, you know, to be clear. Um, but I, like I said, I just, what he's, what he's been able to do, like you said, went healthy, like. You have to be special at that position. And he's been more of a special, um,
this was like a down game for him too. Six catches, 66 yards, two touchdowns, and uh, 48 yards on the ground. Like that's a down game for him.
I mean, what, what a what, I mean, what a throw from Jawan Jennings, um, to find him in the end zone. Um, they had definitely run that play before
Oh
in that game, in the championship game. Um, you know, I, I say it sucks to see kiddo go down again. Um, that's another guy where I'm just like, man, it sucks that we're gonna remember him more from him getting injured than him being a distant third behind Gronk and, um, Trevin Kelsey because he
Yeah.
healthy, he's in that conversation.
But we just, we just won't see enough of him, unfortunately.
Yeah, I agree with that a hundred percent. Um, spend, gimme your, gimme your 15 to 30 seconds on the Eagles and, and their collapse. Like, do they blow it up? What happens now?
Um, I don't think they'll blow it up, but I do think AJ Brown is gone. Um, come, come home, AJ
Come on.
come home. Should have been, that was it should have been that case anyways. But come, come home. Come home. Play play with a better quarterback. Care about it. He won. I told, I told, told I've told y'all. Yeah. Ja, Jalen, hers obviously clearly was good enough to win.
Um, that's, we know that, um, he's not the reason why they win. It wasn't last year. Once again, the, the game that he did really well in the Super Bowl, they lost it when he went.
of, of a phantom pass interference call, you know that, you fucking know it.
For sure. For sure.
He left the field with the lead.
Love. Yeah. So did, so did Brady and oh seven.
Right. Uh, would you ever say that Eli Manning was a better quarterback than Tom Brady, even in Superbowls? I wouldn't.
No, no,
So like, let, let's, let's, let's just be
but I, but I, no, but I, I do think that Drake Maye better than Taylor hurt. So, so
Uh,
it's not, let's, let's, let's, let's be, and you know that too, so, um, well, let's, let's not, let's, let's not be crazy.
have, I'd, I'd rather have Drake Maye.
Thank you. So, so it's okay to say it in a different way, but you, you know, you know who's better. Um, I, it'd be more fun to see them blow it up.
Um, but I mean, why would you, when, you know, they always get some random free agent. They always make a decent trade. Um, this is not the Tide. Denver, Philadelphia Eagles that was coached by my cousin, Ray Rhodes. Um, lot different, lot different, um. They always find someone to come there and, and play. So, um, Harry Roseman will do what he needs to do, and they'll, they'll, they'll reload next year.
They'll reload. Um, but AJ Brown will come home. It's time.
I love that. Uh, all right, so the final game that, that, that we need to predict it would be the Seahawks four nine ERs, divisional matchup. four nine ERs travel to Seattle. believe I'm saying this. mean, I don't know if I would have
Do it, do it.
point favorites, but.
Hmm.
They're gonna win that game.
Who's gonna win it?
Seattle
Yeah. Say no. Say, say it confidently. It's okay.
Sam Donald's gonna play well and they're
Yeah,
that game.
yeah, yeah. Um, he looks different than he did last year, even though, you know, obviously,
think, I don't, I don't think that's true.
you know, he, you don't, he looked better this year than he did last year.
No. I think, I think he has a better defense this year because he, he did do Sam Donald like things in Florida out of the last five games, and
Hmm.
they didn't lose those games because for whatever reason the defense just, just picked him up. But also, like JSN is a problem. Like he is, he is a
Right Bob, I'll say, but is he better than Justice Jefferson?
uh, he's better this year. He is.
I mean, because he, I mean, he's damn mayor duplicated. What? I mean, obviously j just ju Justice Jefferson played with, you know, me and you were quarterback the year, so it's a little different, but, um,
I mean 1700 yards catching,
Crazy. And I said, I, I, yeah, I, it's, it's amazing what I mean. Ohio State, just continue. It is. It's unbelievable.
Um. It's crazy, but, um, yes, you're right. He, he's had some moments where you're like, okay, this is still the singing ghost. Sam Donald. Um, I think his running game is better too. I think that helps. Obviously, you know, with Char Benet, um, and, uh, Kenny Walker.
Walker. Yep.
Um, and then you have a JSN. You have, I figure what, I don't know what the Titan is, but, um, you know, you, you still got Old Man River in Cooper Cup.
Um, I don't know. I, like I said, we'll say it at times. I feel like he's looking better at times. At times I, but like I said, we'll see, we'll see come Saturday. But yeah, I'm with you. I think I see had on Wes on, um, on Sunday.
So then that will set up a Seattle versus Chicago just against Chicago. Travel up to the, uh, the Great Northwest and Wind. Who knows? We we'll find out. But all we care about too, just to put a big fucking button on this New England. It doesn't matter if it's Pittsburgh, doesn't matter if it's Houston. Just, just win that game.
Don't overlook him. Uh, I would prefer Pittsburgh, but listen, if we can keep this Patriot train rolling for a couple more weeks, just, just hearing the collective, you know, shrugs and shrieks from the rest of the football world is all I need. 'cause that nothing more I want to say than we're back If it makes the Super Bowl and that will just eat everyone
I, I'll, I'll be, I'll be insufferable.
Forget about just getting back. They, they mess around to win this in Drake's year too. Um, being insufferable because. Um, like, yeah, because I'm like, just, I'm, because my, 'cause already even throughout the season, I was, I'm like, just when y'all thought it was safe, say they was buried and just outta there completely.
They're coming back into your favorite team's houses and they're winning. And, you know, um, the moment that we had off the field allegations, I said, oh, we're back. We're back. We're, we're back on top. Back on top, back on top. So,
Great.
um, you 📍 know, as long as no one's going underground, we getting killed. We're good.
So, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm okay with everything else. Just don't do nothing stupid for the rest of the rest of the rest of the playoffs.
Yeah, just stay home,
Stay home please.
